  1. Jersey trails. Brendan Bryne Park?

We aren't allowed to off road in NJ. Most you can do is take an unpaved surface road or fire trail. And even then, if you're in a park, the rangers will follow you in. One tire off the trail, huge fine. So no, you don't need a winch. I hate this state. I hate it so damn much. Thankfully Rausch...
  2. If they killed off the 2 door WWYD?

Absolutely correct. But my point is that FCA isn't dumb enough to see the 2 door Wrangler in isolation, since it impacts other sales. If the 2 door loses money on its own, but helps drive sales of the 4 door, then that may make continuing the 2 door a net profit GAIN to the overall Jeep brand...
  3. If they killed off the 2 door WWYD?

This. The whole discussion is moot. The benefit of the 2 door Wrangler to FCA is greater than mere sales. The 2 door is what created and maintains the image of "Jeep." That image is what moves them off of lots, and the reason the 4 door exists--to sell the image, even to those who can't make use...
  4. 103 degrees out -- top back on?

For me, depends on how humid it is. We had a few days a couple weeks ago that were only around 90-95, but with humidity the index put us at "feels like 105" territory. Without the humidity, I wouldn't mind it, but that moisture... Regardless, I'm pretty happy with the alien shade on hot days...
  5. Caught in the rain

Get wet enough, and your touchscreen will go haywire. Happened to me when I forgot to put the top up before a big thunderstorm. The water seems to confuse the touchscreen itself. On the upside, everything works fine once it dries out. So we got that going for us.
  6. Thinking about cancelling my order

Honestly, if a GC SRT is a viable option, then you're probably not going to be satisfied with the Wrangler. I cross-shopped the GTI, too (much cheaper, just as fun on road). But when I started looking at how I was going to use it, I just couldn't make the GTI work (without a lift kit and a...
  7. Jeep wave at Gladiators?

To me, there's a check list: -body on frame? -seven slot grill? -more ground clearance than a Volvo "Cross Country?" If you hit all three, you get a wave. Gladiator definitely hits all three. ... And yes, I do wave at XJ's. Only people who still drive em are committed to their rigs. That's...
  8. Which top do you have? (Poll)

Had to be soft top for me. Ran it all winter. Cold when you get in (not worse than an normal car, honestly), but that blast furnace of a heater took care of that quickly. I've got a garage, so I never had it parked outside during any heavy snow. Now I'm having a blast. The frequent rain of the...
  9. Who else drafts?

Draft, with that windshield? No thank you. This is one of the major reasons people keep needing new windshields. Drafting at 70 means almost any small rock is gonna crack vertical glass like an eggshell. I'm getting 19-20 in my JLUR (stock wheels/tires/ride height) at 75-80mph. That's good...
  10. Jeep Wave [the hand thing, not the program]

So here in North Jersey I've got an interesting one. I get around 90% wave backs, regardless of model, year, or driver stereotype--but that's only if I'm on a side road. On any main road or highway, I've only ever gotten the wave from other Jeeps with their doors off, and even then only when I'm...
  11. Like or hate ESS on 3.6 vs 2.0

Ya know, initially I kinda liked it. Saving fuel is always a good thing, and I like how quiet it is at traffic lights. But having lived with it for a while now, I find it more and more grating. First, it jerks every time the engine starts, and it feels like when I was first learning to drive a...
  12. Integrity of the Jeep name

I think the discussion of military technology got people more than a little off topic. To your point, I understand you feel betrayed by Jeep for the failure of your vehicle. Bottom line is you got a bit of a lemon. Some are easier to fix than others, and the dealer is certainly wronging you...
  13. Sunrider position pointless?

Back to the OP's point it's also worth noting that not everywhere is a highway. I pop the sunrider all the time to avoid dealing with the rear windows on a nice day. Driving through city/town roads is a blast.
  14. JL rubi resale value compared to TJ/JK

Yeah, but the LJ (designation for the TJ Unlimited) was a really special vehicle. Very high demand, they're fast on the way to CJ-8 prices. JL's dont have any variants that unique...
  15. Top swap

I'm a soft top only guy. First time I pulled that back window was when I needed to access the back. In January. Man, I needed a crow bar to get those clips off. Now that I've done it a few dozen times, it's a lot easier. Still snug enough to keep the water out, but easy to remove by hand. It's...
  16. AEV CHMSL......

Harumph! How could you not know an industry specific term? And why would you ask people on a forum instead of doing an internet search?! Why would you ask a QUESTION on a FORUM! Harumph, I say! Sarcasm aside, using the correct term makes sense, though spelling it out in the title of the thread...
  17. LOCKED OUT

Can confirm, did exactly the same. If you have the proximity locks, the Jeep won't lock if the key is in the cup holder. I've done that a BUNCH of times. ... that said, a backup key is not a bad idea... especially if it's $20...
  18. CJ Offroad : What a nightmare...

Those parts are totally unacceptable. I understand the difficulty of shipping overseas. But if you can't pack it to survive shipment, then just don't sell it. Not rocket science, lots of places say they won't ship to certain places. That said, this is a good place to start getting a resolution...
  19. Wheels/Tires?

I dunno, I'm digging the offset, looks pretty nice. A little aggressive without being too much. Then again, may be different in person. But those 20s... Man, @ThirtyOne is right, personal preference and all that, but those 20s just don't look right...
  20. 2019 Wrangler Initial Quality

I'm now at 5k miles on my 19 JLUR. Been absolutely terrified to post anything about quality; my Jeep's been perfect, and I don't wanna jinx myself. Drives tack straight, steering is impeccable, ride's been smooth and comfortable. A total joy. I could go on for pages, but I will say no more out...
