Not sure which engine you have but my 3.6 Pentastar appears to have been fixed as I put about 2000 miles since the repair.
The valve cover and spark plugs were replaced.
2021 JLU Sport manual here.
I just had the IPC and PCM software updates done.
No noticeable differences other than what I think is smoother shifts between neutral to first and first to second gear and the instrument cluster now indicating what gear you are in.
Contact @JeepCares as ask them to cover you for the rental if the dealer insist you pay the rentals during the repair for an obvious CEL.
No reason you should on the hook for a rental especially this early and well within the warranty period.
Apparently some Pentastar engines got either the wrong spark plugs. Glad they rectified it early without compromising the catalytic converter.
Good luck and I hope the issue gets resolved.
Ask the dealer to check the spark plugs. There is a TSB for it. Mine is acting normally after they replaced all the spark plugs.
I put about 250 miles since the repair by the way.
Thanks. Funny you mentioned about leaving it alone.
I went back to my Jeep after about an hour and it came back on. I guess this is another Jeep thing I need to get used to.
Anyone experienced your backup camera turning blank? I have 8.4 inch screen and it turned blank me when the vehicle was reversing. Anyone know how to fix this?
Update:
Picked up my Jeep after having all six spark plugs replaced per TSB. It seems to be running okay now. I will need to put some more miles before making a final judgment.
Dealer tells me certain 3.6 engines have had wrong spark plugs installed at the factory so the TSB is to replace all...
So the dealer called to tell me my Jeep is now all set after havjng replaced all O2 sensors, valve cover, fuel injector, ignition coil, one spark plug and PCM software update.
As I was about to step on a gas to drive away from the dealer, the CEL comes back. WTF

There is a thread with a similar problem on the 3.6 engine without the e torque.
Take a look and do share what you find out from the dealer.
Oh btw, mine with less than 400 miles has been in shop since 10/20/20. Hopefully yours isn’t as bad. Good luck.
Bad luck maybe but no doubt this has been a letdown. I’ve been reading on JL forum that newer Gladiators with the same Pentastar 3.6 engines w/o etorque are also having some teething issues.
Sorry to hear and I know how you feel.
While mine isn’t for the steering box, I did have to wait more than a month for the part that was on backordered. I think FCA prioritizes supplying parts to the factory (so they can keep up with demands) more look after us customers.
By the way, my JLU S...
