  1. Some good lessons for overlanding solo

The honest answer is that 90+% of the folks using handheld ham radios on the trail don't have a ham license. Yet, you don't hear of anyone being fined. Thus, I'd gamble on the side of "any breakdown is an emergency." BTW ... GMRS seems to be bumping CB off the trail. GMRS has very good range...
  2. Constant tone from radio

@Mucktheghost ... yep, there is an update for the 8.4 radio. Just hit mine today, but I was on a trail so delayed it until this evening.

Here's your first assignment ... read this webpage for some info on mapping programs : https://www.jeeptheusa.com/use-gpx.html ... three suggested mapping programs. I have Gaia and Locus Pro. Locus Pro has a steep learning curve, but since we also geocache, it is the best app for us. Gaia is...

There are a number of folks on those Facebook groups who love to camp. You'll fit right in with them. My missus thinks a credit card is all the camping equipment she needs, so we no longer camp under the stars. Which model Jeep do you have? We had a bone stock JL two door Sahara on a couple...

The defending question was not directed towards the cash, but was a round about way of asking if you were retired. The ribbon, after all, is a National Defense Service Medal ... yes? Have you hooked up with any Facebook group yet? Here is what I posted a couple of months ago: About two years...

Welcome to the forum. Yep, almost everything is a danger to your bank account when it has "Jeep" in it. Are you through defending? Full or part time AJ?
  7. Constant tone from radio

I understand that there is an update being downloaded to the radios in this time frame. My wife's Summit (that never had the problem) received the update last week. So, if it doesn't show up soon, you might see about forcing it. And, do get back with what happens after the update.
  8. Arizona owners - please check in!

Not that I have first hand knowledge about. You might try these folks: https://offroadpassport.com/ I was weaned on forums in the kiting and big green egg fraternity years ago. But, then kiting folks moved to Facebook, so when I started looking for Jeep groups in the Phoenix area, Facebook was...
  9. Tire deflators ... what your mother forgot to tell you

Just a quick update on changes I've made. First I did buy a set of the Trailhead deflators. Love them ... dialed in the pressures with no problems ... sweet. For some reason they take an extra 18 seconds (4:45 versus 4:27 for the Staun) or so to deflate a 35" tire from 34 psi to 14 psi as...

Welcome Howard ... you might consider posting your town ... that way folks in your neighborhood might be inclinded to get in touch with you. Also, take a look at this post: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/arizona-owners-please-check-in.9277/page-51#post-1356677 ... It lists four...
  11. Arizona Owners parts sale/trade thread ...

Nope ... all I have left are a set of OEM Rubicon rock sliders. Could be cheap protection until you figure out what you want. If you're interested then PM me.
  12. Tazer (Programmer) for the JL

Part of the TSB is to re-flash one of computers. If the Tazer has part or all of the old specs in its memory, then those parts of the re-flash will be lost if you unmarry the Tazer at a later date. Unmarry the Tazer in the dealer's parking lot when you drop it off sounds like a good compromise.
  13. Arizona owners - please check in!

About two years ago, a group from this forum organized a run through Box Canyon - Florence. It was a success, but was hard to organize. One of the members said it would be easier to handle on Facebook, so he started the "Four Corners off-road Adventures" Facebook Group. In hindsight, the lack...
  14. Arizona owners - please check in!

That's a great attitude to have here in the mountains and the desert. I've turned around a bunch of times when the trail looked to be beyond my skill set. I've since gone back and passed through a couple of those "turn a rounds" when I became more comfortable with the Jeep.
  15. ARB deflator problems ... your solution?

Nope, any fix with my stems and the ARB deflator would have been slightly Micky Mouse. I've seen it used on other JL Jeeps. Think it's the luck of the draw where your stems are sourced from. I returned mine and bought a set of Stauns Tire Deflators. Thus, my fix was to buy a set of Staun...
  16. Mounting ARB Air Compressor

Sounds like you found a non-problem. When the pump gets it's first shot of electricity, it fires off for about 3~5 seconds ... then it shuts down. What's happening is that the pump is pressurizing the tiny tank between the two cylinders. Once it reaches pressure (160psi I think) the pump...
  17. Mounting ARB Air Compressor

Glad you had success on the install. The Delphi connector is water proof ... that's why the rubber grommets on all of the wires. In OEM applications no additional waterproofing is provided. If water does contaminate the connector, you can remove the connector to solder and srink rap the ends...
  18. Mounting ARB Air Compressor

Here's a reasonably good YouTube video that demonstrates the process: In place of his hair clip, I used a small eyeglass screwdriver. One item the video doesn't touch on is that sometimes the small spring locking clip bends down enough that that won't lock into place ... simply bend it back...
  19. Mounting ARB Air Compressor

I did the same install with the extension harness and had some slack in the wires. Ran through a slit in the carpet and down the side of the tub ... across the back of the driver's side rear passenger seat (there's a c-channel there that protects the wires) ... down through the drain hole under...
  20. LOD Destroyer rear bumper / tire carrier

I had the same problem with my Warn Elite bumper. First that's piss poor engineering for a company of that size and stature. The fix they said was to rotate the in-board sensors until they don't trigger off the spare tire. It worked ... although I'll think twice about purchasing anything else...
