I know this is a half ass solution, but the savings in both weight and cost would be significant. Has anyone tried this? The 33 would be used on front with 2WD only. Thanks for any comments.

I did it for a while, didn't want to spend the extra $300. Never had to use so not sure how well it would actually work. I just bought the matching tire as I didn't want to risk it and didn't really care for the look. Also should extend the life of your tire if you include it in the rotation.

I did this for my mall crawler. Frankly you’d really have to be paying attention to notice the tire is different if you were just looking at the Jeep.

I’ve “needed” a spare maybe twice in the last 20 years. I agree with you that I could probably limp a few miles on a 33 if I had to. Note that since the rubicon has open diffs I think you’d be ok front or rear.

Obviously if you were going off-road, smart move would be to take a matching spare

Most if not all off-road parks will not let you ride without a matching spare.

Good point about offroad parks, but if there are no restrictions where you wheel, it seems that the use of a smaller tire will not do any damage.
