I don’t understand this Jeep. It’s inefficient, wobbly, slow, and spends most of its life driving where it’s not at its best: on pavement. Still, I’ve owned a ton of vehicles prior to my 2018 JLR, and none of them has resonated as much as the Jeep. I simply love it. I can’t explain what it is, but I always look forward to my time behind the wheel.
So, what do I do when I find myself blessed with a few days free of obligation? Easy: Road trip!
I covered about 1,000mi in four days, running along the coast between Northern California and Los Angeles. The Jeep, as usual, was flawless. (No jinx!) Gas mileage held around 23mpg for the trip (V6 auto) — pretty decent, I think.
Highways, driveways, valets. Beach lots, motels, snack breaks. Nightlife, car shows, Rodeo Drive.
The Jeep did it all, and I’d do it all again. I remain so very impressed with this Jeep. It invites a sense of adventure that I’ve not encountered with any previous vehicle. And even adventures that don’t include mud or rocks end up being a blast.
