Why did you buy a Jeep?

Speedbumps (and lots of them).
Speed camera's.
Trajectory speed controls.
Potholes.

...and still have fun :)

Its versatility.
It can go about anywhere.

Oh, and I did regret to sell my JKR :crying:
You must live in NYC. Oh wait I saw the profile.

Pretty much all the posts so far on this thread are reasons why I bought mine - and then another...I have been pulling 4WD pickups behind my motorhome and have been over-length in CA (where I live - yes) on state highways for many years, and although I've never been popped for it, I panic when I see a CHP coming up on me. So the JLUR puts me under-length! Yahoo! Stress free pulling!
Oh yes - another reason...the dog's car has been the SRT8 for some time, and we're tired of his hair in it all the time - something about the Jeep lends itself to not sweating the hair so much!

I could in mine... :bandit:

But just imagine the shattered remains of a mailbox under the truck and a ditch full of sleet and freezing rain... and deep muddy ruts from me trying to get out of the ditch with a 4x2 :giggle:

Always thought Wranglers were cool but dismissed them as gas-guzzling, impractical, crappy-riding/uncomfortable trucks. I bought a Miata as a nimble, fun car 5 years ago and I learned that I really enjoyed top-down driving/cruising. A few years later, my wife's buddy took us off-roading in the Michigan sand dunes one summer and it was insanely fun so it put Wranglers on my radar. I ended up never driving the Miata after my daughter was born a little under 2 years ago since I drive her to/from daycare almost every work day. Sold the Miata and bought my yellow JLU the next day. It's basically a Miata in truck form - convertible with an optional hard top, manual transmission, rear wheel drive (unless you drop it into 4Hi/4Lo), made for fun and adventures, is a conversation starter, has a great and friendly community, tons of aftermarket support, and never ceases to put a smile on my face.

It was my dream since I was a little guy hitting the beach with my parents. It just seemed like the perfect ride for the beach. Now we spend a lot of time at the beach and the mountains and we do a good amount of camping; I'm now on my third Jeep and it's perfect fit for our active lifestyles...and my kids love it!

Wow, all these answers and stories, I am sure that there is room for one more.
  • I’m a Brit living in America, and I wanted to fit in
    • I couldn’t afford a LandRover Defender
  • My wife got a pool, I got to buy a second car (my daily driver was my Merc, but I drive the JL more)
  • I started with a JK in exchange for the pool
  • I got the JK, as I run trails, on my feet, and got fed up climbing into BMWs and Mercedes covered in mud. I wanted something that I could get dirty and not worry about.
  • You can only just fit a kids baseball gear in a JK, and when it’s raining it’s a pain in the a$$ to get the kids in the back.
  • I sold my 2009 JK (which was great) and bought a 2012 JKU, which was sh!tty and leaked. My Jeep is parked outside :(
  • My JKU needed 5 new tires, I convinced my CFO (wife) that new tires would cost as much as 3 or 4 months of payments on a JLU, logic that she couldn't argue :CWL:
  • Now that I have my JLU:
    • It’s my daily driver, my Mercedes goes out once per a week (although I am looking at a new one!)
    • My wife is happy to take the family out in it
    • My wife drives it,, from time to time (she wouldn’t even get in the JK/JKU)
    • I love the heated steering wheel, cold weather package was a must have, I use it for quite a few months in GA
Now my story is probably quite different to that of many on here, and yes, I do realize how fortunate I am. But I know that I am not a minority in having my Jeep as a second vehicle, but I love it.

:jk: :flag:

Because it’s better on the trails than my other love—roadsters :

I had to give up my Miatas because of a bionic knee and repaired shoulder. I loved my hubby’s JK and missed it when he sold it. My JLR soft top is a fun and different roadster

Loving this thread!

I’ve always wanted a Jeep, but as a stay at home mom they weren’t a practical family car and we couldn’t really afford one. But every time I saw one I wished for it, planned to get one when my kids were grown and I was back to work full time.
Fast forward to now, although my oldest kids are grown, we became foster parents a few years ago and are doing a round 2! I still need a family friendly car. I’m still home full time with the kids. I had a little “mid life crisis” this year and realized I’ll never have a “child free” season that will be “right” and just bought a JLU! I’ve enjoyed upgrading, am loving wheeling it too, and the kids want to go all the time.
Loving the Jeep life and glad I jumped in!
