Hey socaljeep! Love the look of your buddy's Jeep! Any other modifications to the Jeep that's depicted in the photos i.e. lift? I would like to duplicate his look as much as possible limiting my modifications to just wheels and tires. Also, am I assuming correctly that the tires are 285/70/R17?

Hey ElJefe...The jeep is completely stock..no lift..and the tires are 285/70/17 that came off a Gladiator.. they fit perfectly...

I would think keeping the spare lower would help visibility out the back? Is it rubbing the bumper too much? Shaking? The stock Rubicon tires will work well with your Jeep. IMHO

More: If you should run across another 2 door Rubicon giving away their suspension, that will give you a bit of clearance but still a nice ride.

The spare being tight on the bumper is a good thing. Keeps it from moving around as well and keeping your sight out of the back window. Tires look great on it!

You will probably need a Spare Tire Relocation kit. I think Rough Country has one for like $60. I suppose you could first try using a few washers on the studs behind the spare tire first to see if it gives you enough room. Or, if you plan to keep an air compressor in your jeep at all times, just let a bunch of air out of your spare tire.

How are you liking the 285/75 tires? Have you noticed a significant power loss from the larger tires? Im'm considering the same size tire with a 2" lift.

I got BFG A/T 285/70/17, sticking out of fenders is illegal here, they stick out a decent amount (like I will get stopped by the police), I think its around 1 to 1.5 inches out of the fender. My car is currently getting it's windshield replaced so can't take a good picture to show you, but if you see below random pics you can get an idea how it looks.

Thanks for your repsonse @OM3 It is quite difficult to find a good looking wheel/tyre combination that does not pass the fender line, even with the 255/70 tyres the JL's come with here, in particular for a Rubi with its wider axles. The choice of wheels in a for us acceptable width and bakspace/offset is very limited the least... If I stick to the 255's, I win 15mm as compared to you, but that might still be too wide. Might ask Fifteen52 whether the center eventually can be machined off a bit to get some offset... These are really cool - I'm a fan of the retro look.
