Do you really have to do this with a winch?

Just installed the SmittyBuilt XRC Gen 3. In the instructions it says if you need to power out the Winch you have to do it 2 feet at a time and let it rest for 5 minutes in between bumps to break it in. Really?

I know under load you need to let the motor rest if it gets hot. Is there something different about winching outward?

Thanks Guys!

Just like they tell you to break in the pads and rotor when new. And tells you brake hard then not to stop or apply brakes for miles on end until rotors are cooled. But nobody ever does them anyways.

Thanks!! Was just wondering if there was something different about the gearing when winching out.

When you power spool out there is no weight on the winch so it is running at max speed so they can heat up and wear faster than under load. That being said this is more of a over precaution on their and protect their butt on warranty claim and what not. But you should try to free spool if possible to reduce stress and wear on the winch
