To the owners who wish to do the oil change themselves that's perfectly fine.

One word to the wise. Keep good documentation of your maintenance: receipts, etc.

Should warranty work be indicated, FCA will notice that you haven't been in for oil changes and may push back on servicing your rig gratis if you don't have proof that said maintenance was in fact done.

Do it yourself. Super easy (easiest of any vehicle I have ever owned) and you’ll know it’s done right. (Or if you mess up, at least you have only yourself to blame. It happens: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/oil-filter-o-ring-placement-matters.34840/ )

Besides the inconvenience of going to the dealer, too many of them are putting in 6qts of oil (because that’s what the 3.6L V8 took in the previous generation).

A 5 tire rotation is very easy as it only requires that one wheel be jacked at a time.

Here’s the note I keep on my iPhone to keep things easy:

Oil:
5q 0w20

Oil Filter:
MOPAR MO-349 68191349AB/AC
Mobil 1: M1C-456A

Air Filter:
MOPAR 68257030AA
8mm socket

Cabin Filter:
MOPAR 68301863AA

Tools:
22mm lugs
13mm drain plug
24mm oil filter cap (torqued to 18lbs)

Pull F11 & F97 to reset UConnect
(Edit: this is not a maintenance item, just a “note to self”)

Thank you for this, just made a note on my phone with it.

The Jeep wave and the oil changes are one of the best things. It's all taken care of by the dealer for free. If anything goes wrong it's on them.

@Jeepney18 i would not say your screwed, first park your Jeep on a flat level surface and shut it off and let it sit about 10 mins or so and pull the dip stick to see where the level is, if it’s above the indicator like on the wire then it’s over filled by 1 quart and have them address it

Like I said I have one oil change left and I will stand over them while they it to ensure 5 quarts only and after that it’s on me, it’s not that I’m not ca

It's over the limit. I'm going to have to drain it.

Problem is we're going on a little trip tomorrow. No time. Gotta fix it tonight.
These Dealer service techs really are idiots....

Is it even safe to drive at this point?
An overfilled crankcase is not good, the below info is copied from another site and not sure how much applies to these Jeeps but me bing and old gear head compressor mechanic overfilling can blow seals and foul plugs, like I said these Service Tech kids are just not trained correctly and more than likely don’t give a dam as it’s not there vehicle

Can Too Much Oil Damage Your Engine?
In a word, yes. There are several things that might happen if a significant amount of excess oil is added to your engine. Your engine relies on consistent oil pressure to keep the moving parts running smoothly. Changes in the oil pressure and overall lubrication of the engine can lead to:

  • Engine damage such as bent rods in the engine or collapsed valve pipes.
  • Catastrophic engine failure where the engine sustains enough damage that it cannot be repaired, but must instead be replaced.
  • Excess engine wear from inconsistent oil pressure over time.
  • Spark plug fouling, resulting in the need to replace spark plugs more frequently.
  • Excess oil deposits in the catalytic converter.
