I am pretty new to the Jeep world, I’ve only had Mitchell (my Jeep) for 100 days now. I was told it was best to put premium gas in my tank, is that true? He’s a 6-cylinder, 8-speed auto. I cannot find the answer in the documents I was sent from the dealership.

Waste of money, but you’re not hurting anything other than your bank account. The timing will adjust for the higher octane.

BTW...you might want to find the person who told you to use 93, and explain their error...or laugh at them....or something. Too much misinformation in the world today.

...and wait for the people who believe their wrangler runs better on 93 octane to chime in...

On my 2010 JKUL I only ran 88. Never a problem. When I picked up my 20 JLUR dealer said use 88. Is this incorrect?

It depends on the motor. The V-6 uses Regular, the Turbo 4-banger uses Premium. Your owner's manual knows way more about your Jeep than your dealer.

Yes, the manual does specify 87. Yes, 87 runs like crap in my 3.6 and pings at lower RPMs. I run 91 in mine, and there is no pinging, the MPG is better (probably because engine isn't constantly retarding timing to adjust for pinging), and the engine runs smoother overall.

Um. 300 miles in. Second fill up on 87 with no problems. Maybe I’ll switch to 91 next fill up.

i've been running 87 and have no problems. running 93 will not be a option for me because i'm not paying 3.79/gal.

I run 89 in my JLUR and with noticeable less pinging at lower rpm plus a ~ 7% increase in mpg which is enough to offset the extra cost at fill up. I have a manual transmission so I'm also making sure I shift at a higher rpm to avoid pinging but overall, 89 seems to be a nice octane in the Texas summer/fall heat.

I’m with you. Except I’m in CA hell where premium is damn near $5 right now.

I do hate that low rpm ping though. Even if it is “normal”.

If I had a dollar Everytime this came up...

93 is like dessert, once in a blue moon won't kill you, but you shouldn't have it daily
