Alternative to plastic doorsill guards

Picked-up this XPEL doorsill guard via Amazon for only $20. I really liked the look of the painted doorsill so figured I’d give this a shot. Very happy with the turnout.

Any challenges with install? I know R3 off-road has a similar product that I’m considering, but the price on Xpel is hard to beat.

No problems at all. The kit came with a squeegee and install instructions. I setup some LED shop lights so I could see clearly. I used a sliding style paper cutter to trim the pieces exactly to measurement. Overall the install was super easy and took about an hour.

Did you go up over the edge towards the interior moulding? That's the spot that I'm worried about. I have an appt this week to have Xpel installed that will cover the flat and wrap up / over the edges - but it will run me around $50 for the front sills with install. I saw this kit for $19 on amazon but I can't find info on how to work Xpel around complex curves.

Without having seen this product in real life yet, I bet it’s application is similar to vinyl - using a heat gun and fabric squeegee will help those complex corners.

I’d recommend ordering your own piece and cutting it to size or having someone do it custom. The picture in the kit does not cover the edge enough. Take it from someone who knows, as hard as you try to avoid it, you will end up with scuff marks on the edge o have circles here. That edge needs to be covered, otherwise there’s no point to door sill guarding my opinion.

I bought a piece off amazon and went down below that second bend too. I’ve attached some pictures from when I first did it. If you zoom in close, you can see what I mean about the piece going all the way down

I used the same stuff on my hinge post. I was going to do the leading edge of my hood but didnt have enough. For the price this really is hard to beat.

Xpel makes a good product. I have it on my Vette, the brides Mustang, and my JL. It's saved the day on many occasions by keeping those nasty little rock dings off the vehicles. I should have thought about it for my JL's door seals, but big old dumb me didn't. I bought some of those black plastic covers. Oh well, they don't looks as good. but they do work. I do like the look on yours.

Yeah boy, I thought about the same thing the other day. It's quite a diverse grouping. But, they are all fun in their own ways.

And you know the sad thing about the whole deal is I also have an old '67 Camaro, and a '92 Toyota pickup. The bride said the yard looks like a used car dealers lot when I have them all out in the open. She's so funny..............

I used 3M from Amazon BUT you guys did a better job then I did. I may have to redo mine after seeing your photos. I did go down the bend, put some on the top of my rear painted fenders where the kids climb in.... Love this stuff.
