So I was driving down the road doing about 20, then the orange engine light started to flash and the car lost power. I coasted to a stop then tried to get it started again. I would go into drive but the D would flash and it would rev but not go into gear. Tried going into full time 4WD but no better luck. Went to push it off the road and noticed the wheels were locked up so it wouldn't move forward. Tow truck driver came and had to drag it onto the tow truck and is towing it to dealership. 2018 JLU Sahara. Any thoughts what might have gone wrong?

Did you check the fuses? A lot of them are not fully seated from the factory and may cause all sorts of electrical problems.

People post this in every thread where Jeep encountered a problem but itā€™s never the cause.
It literally was the cause when this exact thing happened to me. I was able to trouble shoot it and then ultimately resolve it due to jeepers posts on this forum. "Never" is almost "never" an accurate or good statement to make when making a point unless the point maker (you in this case) quantifies it as an actual fact.

"People (who) post this in every (really every?) thread where Jeep encountered a problem (all problems?) but itā€™s never (never? it was at least once) the cause."

Or put the t-case in neutral, which is even better.
The electronics can put the vehicle into park, even if the transfer case is in drive, neutral, etc. The manual release in the video overrides that. At least, thatā€™s the case with the auto.

Yes and no - the transfer case is between the wheels and the transmission. Therefore, even if the transmission is in park, the vehicle will roll if the transfer case is in neutral ;)

As for seating the fuses, people say to do it because it is the easiest thing to rule out, and way better than having a dealer replace half your electrical system trying to fix an issue :)

Thank you for the correction! I misspoke. If it is in 2H, the transmission setting can be overruled by the electronics, if seatbelt is off/door open - or if the ECU thinks those conditions exist.

Problem fixed! If anyone is interested it turned out to be a valve body in the transmission. Something to do with the valve not working causing the car not to know what gear it was in. They replaced the valve under warranty and I'm back on the road. It looks like they did do the trick in the video to get it into neutral since they didn't get the cover put all the way back in.

It just happened to me, at midnight, thankfully pulling into my neighborhood. Took 4 hours to get it towed to the dealership...

Just got back from the dealership after not hearing anything over the long weekend. Transmission Valve Body is what they are saying, and it will be about 2 weeks to get my Jeep back. Extremely disappointed to have some like this happen with just over 2,000 miles on the Jeep. I also wonder if there is gear damage since it shifted itself into park when I was still rolling.
