It bolts into the large hole on the backside of the roll bar and one of the smaller screws secures the bottom section. It seems really solid and secure.

I have never had a rattle from the cooltech set up when off road.

So forgive me as I've only had my jeep for about 6 months. Do you all have fire extinguishers in all of your vehicles or just your jeeps? Do jeeps catch fire at a rate that I should plan to get one for my jeep? Or is it just a look some jeep owners like?

Virtually every Jeep club requires that every participant carry a fire extinguisher.

It's like having a seatbelt or carrying a gun.....you are really gonna wish you planned ahead if the time comes when you need it.

I was not familiar with the Element fire extinguishers until I read this thread. After a few minutes of research, I’m sold. Another very useful piece of knowledge I learned in the forum. Thank you all for sharing.

While I see a use for an element, after watching the videos...it would appear that they are designed for enclosed places (basically suffocating the fire with a nontoxic chemical gas. While it would probably work ok for an engine bay fire, I would not bet my life that it would put out much in the open air or if there was much wind at all.

I think that it is a good add on for the "tool box" but I would not solely rely on one.

Here is my personal setup. A bit of advice....buy a no mess extinguisher. The chemicals in a reqular extinguisher are very corrosive. I had one discharge inside my FJ40 years ago and it completely rat-F#@$ed the interior and rusted within a year.

I wanted one that was solid, quiet, didn’t require permanent installation, tapping a hole, etc. I bought a First Alert 2.5 lb Home1 extinguisher at Harbor Freight ($14.99 with coupon - Amazon price - $25.99) and now I’m legal with the four wheel parks and Jeep clubs and can actually extinguish a fire if I need to. I’m aware of the damage that a non-Halon extinguisher can do but I think I’ll be more apt to be generous with using it than if I paid $100 plus for one. Also, I can move it to within arms reach if the situation warrants it.

I don’t hang mine...... I use the element fire extinguisher and it fits under the driver seat. About as big as a road flare, more capacity that’s a typical extinguisher, never expires.
