Damn now there a light on all the time, where’s the thread on disabling it ??
Yep, light on all the time. Still worth it and one of the best mod (of many) so far. I hated that ESS. If anyone knows how to reverse the off/on light, please share.

I wish this could help me compare Jeeps with Socialism. That would be funny.

Don't buckle the seat belt. ESS won't activate, and the orange light stays off.

Maybe someone needs spell check and some punctuation.

I easily put in 50-55 hours a week at a minimum so no one is sitting around. Go enjoy your truck and cut out the political posts, they aren't welcome on this forum.
Then don’t post any

ESS is strange. Very often it is disabled because "the battery is charging." But when it works, it seems to work fine until after a while when at a stop, the motor will stop but, with my foot still on the brake, the motor will decide to start up again on its own. What's up with that?

Climate control demands most likely. Possibly not enough pressure maintained on the brake pedal.

Usually it turns the engine back on due to voltage requirements (voltage getting too low) or because of interior temperature / humidity (assuming you have the AC on)

Just ordered the SmartStopStart, the ESS is a terrible feature. Here in Hawaii if I forget to turn it off every time I usually find it is getting very warm before the aircon automatically turns back on. Can't wait for the module, totally worth the $$ if you ask me.

Here's a tip for you auotmatic drivers: You can also tap the gas while still holding the brake and the engine will start up again and stay on. Useful when say at a light you see changing and don't want the delay of the ESS to slow your takeoff.

This isn't a bad ESS unit. It's better than most small cars or 4 bangers I've driven with it but much worse than my BMW unit. That has a true motor/generator though (but does have to start a 4.4l V8). The other nice thing in the BMW is that turning it off turns it off permanently until you re engage it, even after getting out of the car.

I hate the ESS. In the manual, the ESS turns off when you let off the clutch, which I think is better than turning off the engine when the vehicle stops,.... BUT, the system is still active.... so, lets say you go to the market, then, you pull into your spot, let out the clutch, with the tranny in neutral and put on the emergency brake.., the engine turns off.... If you do not put the Gladiator in gear, then, you open the door to get out, guess what ? The engine starts again, that was counter intuitive for me.

I live in a small town and usually when it shuts off the light changes and I have to go again. So it’s annoying and in my case unnecessary. And I always forget to hit the dang button.

This is not Jeep or any other manufacturer own doing. This is the stupid EPA that forces them to. So in turn we all pay for this idiocy. Look how much the price went up between last model and this one (look at Wrangler prices). I am not even sure how i feel about the stupid button start, mine is a manual and i am trying to figure out right now how to get it started with the dead battery from a roll.
Granted it is heavy and pushing it is not much fun but when I go remote camp I always park on a hill so that if my battery die I can just roll and start.

Anyway, wish there was an option to buy it without all that nonsense at a much better price point.
