More power, lower operating temperatures, and better diesel mileage.

If i had to guess, I'd say at least some of them ARE engineers.

I know from the Rubicon origin story Jp Magazine did a while back, there were 2 guys pushing that model since the late 90's. They fought hard for it and the way they finally got it greenlit was they took 4 TJ's: 2 stock, put ARB's in one and ARB's and an Atlas (I think?, may have been a Stak or something) in the other, and sent them on the Chrysler corporate retreat. The suits realized 2 of the Jeeps weren't getting stuck and the people on the trip were lining up to take turns with the 2 better equipped Jeeps. When asked why, the 2 engineers told them about the mods and explained this is what they wanted to offer in a production model. With some of the higher ups on board, they went and pressed accounting HARD to ship it. eventually, they won out, and the rest, as they say is history.

Hopefully, it'll be the same case with the diesel.

Doubt it...FCA hasn’t backed away from their Q4 predictions and they’re going to run long-term tests on those rigs whether they release in 3 months or a year plus. If the EPA/CARB put your vehicle in certification jail, doesn’t mean you can’t continue running it hard for R&D purposes.
