HELP! Reverse lights and the backup camera are not working at all on my Jeep JL. I have taken it to our local Jeep outfitter shop that installed all of our upgrades and they advised me to take it to the dealership becuase they could not figure it out either. I have performed the soft reset that @JeepCares has posted in other forums, unplugged the battery for 15 minutes and also unplugged the F11 and F97 fuses. I didnt even pay much attention to the backup camera not working becuase I use my mirrors but the no backup lighting was what caught my attention! I have a smittybilt XRC rear bumper that has lights integrated in and they are not working either. I have no idea what else it could be! Any ideas what could fix this or what I should do next?

I know you unplugged the fuses, but did you check to see if they were blown? Try swapping out the above fuses with some spares and see if that fixes it. If not, take it to the dealer.

Well... today at the dealership was an experience to say the least. They think itā€™s the gear sensor. Itā€™s not reading what gear Iā€™m in to engage any of the reverse sensors. They ordered the part and will be calling when it comes it.

If you have an auto tranny, you can change a setting using your steering wheel control button to turn on ā€œdisplay current gearā€. This will show what gear you are in. For example, when driving it might show D4 meaning you are in 4th gear. This number will change as your transmission shifts gears 1-8. This feature is off by default and needs to be turned on. If you turn this feature on and you see the gears change as you drive or see ā€œRā€ displayed when in reverse, then Iā€™d say the gear sensor may not be the problem unless the backup lights/camera use a separate sensor. Just guessing.

If you have a manual tranny, then it certainly could be the sensor.

Ok update!!

Itā€™s not the gear sensor. They replaced it and still no backup lights. They think it has something to do with a magnet or something inside the transmission??! Does this even sound right? They still have my Jeep since Wednesday and the transmission guy is looking at it Monday.

Did your backup camera and lights work when you first purchased your Jeep?

Yes. For about 4 or 5 months. Iā€™m really not sure when it stopped working bc I donā€™t drive at night very often and I always use my mirrors to back up and not the camera. I noticed it one night last month when I was backing out of my driveway (very dark and looonnngg) that I noticed I didnā€™t have any reverse lights. I have an aftermarket bumper that has led reverse lights built in and I knew something was up when I only had red brake lights.
