I’m 6 days into a wheeling/camping trip in the Colorado high country, with my new ARB fridge.

It’s working like a champ.

I’m unplugging it every night when I bed down, for a few reasons:

1.My sleeping bag could block cooling vents as I toss during the night.

2. It eliminates all concern regarding “will Jeep start in the morning?”.

3. The compressor starting in the night wakes me up. I’m a light sleeper, especially in the backcountry.

Last night fridge temp was 25 degrees at 2100 when I unplugged.

It was 29 degrees at 0600.

9 hours. Up 4 degrees.

I’m coming to realize that a large part of the efficiency of these rascals is that they are so very well insulated.

I’m a very happy camper.
What was the temp at night?

I doubt if it got below 55-60 in the Jeep.

Projected overnight low for Telluride was 46, and 180# of man and 90# of dogs will warm up a Jeep, now.

Was likely <-1000’ above Telluride at camp.

New MarinAire 40qt delivered today at 2pm from hot FedEx truck in San Fernando Valley, CA. Unpacked, read instructions, plugged in at 2:35pm (84.5degrees), 3:05pm (34 degrees). 100 degrees outside. So far I like these results.

So, I bought the Jackery 290 lithium battery pack. 292watt hours. 20.3amp hours.

Started test with battery at 98%

It ran the fridge set at 31 degrees for 30 hours straight! Ambient temp 75-80. Only 12 beer cans inside. So a full fridge would have lasted longer. Also I turned it off at 1%. So technically would have gone another 30min- 1hr.

I’m impressed.

Matched with a simple 60watt solar panel and you will for sure get 2 full days and nights if not more depending on sun. If you input the full 42watts over a 45min period and only drain 2watts until compressor comes on..then drains 44watts. You’ll still be charging

Considering the power draw of the fridge..

Idle: 1-2watts
Compressor on: 44-47watts
Solar input power: 42watts max (limited to preserve battery longevity..slower charge..the better)

You can power and solar charge simultaneously so no worries there. Weights on 6lbs and is very small. Fit it anywhere. Cool lcd displays battery life/ input watt/ output watt.

Ya he probably has this 9ne https://amzn.to/2NfNjRV

And damn they are very compact. I’d love to get one if they perform that well. You can plug fridge to vehicle driving and then switch to this when not and just run a solar charger to it.

I was looking at it on amazon and all of a sudden it said..lighting deal! I had I no idea what that was but the price went down to 250 or 260 something like that..so I bought it right then. Haha

You can also charge it via 12v

There’s a 500w one. How many watts does a car jump starter need to charge would be the question you need to answer to see if this works. https://amzn.to/2z3IV05

I read a review that said Jackery has a proprietary solar charger input, so you can only use theirs, which is pretty expensive. Anyone know if that is true?

Hmm idk but I actually have their solarsaga 60watt panel. Got it yesterday. I liked the compact folding design.

If you wanted to use a different panel you could cut the wire and splice in the wire leading to the panel.

Just gotta keep in mine that charging is limited to 42watts
