We went to Silver Lake Sand Dunes for a long weekend. I have been going to the dunes for 30+ years. A sunset on the dunes should be on your bucket list, plus the dunes are a fun weekend.

My Jeep is the second to the left. I was flying a drone and caught the wife soaking the inside of the JLUR

There is water....fresh water, but be careful as some of the walter is deep and I have seen vehicles disappear under the water.

Sunsets at the Sand Dunes are incredible. Vehicles line up on a sand dune facing the lake and watch the sun go down. There is always a positive vibe in the air, kids playing, Jeeps and SxS racing around and good people are abound.

This is a drone shot of the vehicles lined up to watch sunset. This is not all the vehicles, This was just the widest shot I could get with the drone.

Took my first steps as a baby at SL. My dads uncle had a big compound of three houses there. Have not been back since 2010 though, would be fun to take the JL.

Great pictures. I think I saw you there Saturday just from your picture on this site. Was a great day indeed. Quick question for you, the JL is a far cry from my old CJ 7, manual three speed with a 360. The JL was much more difficult to drive, I actually had to use the manual mode to drive test hill? Any tricks with the newer jeeps with all the Electronics? I have a taser mini and I’m not sure I have the settings correct for the traction control, etc. I believe I spoke to the gentleman with the pumpkin jeep in your pictures and he’s the one that told me to try manual tell him thanks it worked.

Yup, manual for hill climbs. then back to drive for normal cruising. I climb test hill in 4h in M3 and shift to M2 or M1 if necessary. you do not want to be in auto as it will up shift and bough down as the speeds get higher and will not let the engine run in the higher RPM range. Bill in the Punk'N told you right as that is what I told Bill to also do. After you learn the vehicle, there is no need for 4l on the dunes. Also make sure you run low tire pressure. I run 6 pounds and it makes the Jeep run much better on the dunes. Some only air down to 10, but 6 pounds is way better. It might not seam like a lot, but 6 pounds is 40% less air than 10 pounds........It makes a huge difference.

I see you are a State fan by the plate, are you local to Lansing?

Thanks for the info. I was running about 11 psi. I am a State alumni. I live in Canton.

ON the sand even with stock tires, I would run 8 or 9 pounds, There are guys in our Jeep club that run as low at 3 pounds without beadlocks on the sand. Airing down an additional pound might not sound like a big deal, but lets say that you are aired down to 10 pounds and then go to 8 pounds. That is a 20% reduction in air pressure when you are already low. So try 8 pounds first and if you have any problems, drop a pound in each tire. Just remember that your tires are low so avoid high speed turns....which should not be a problem on the dunes.

Thank you, this is our first time here with the Jeep.

I am totally new at this, so this may be a dumb question. How do you get the air back in the tires? Do you bring a mini compressor?
