R&D not worth the minuscule demand. I’m happy that I was able to get a manual at all...Just curious why they won’t offer a manual transmission with the diesel...is it because it would need a redesigned heavier duty clutch than the 3.6?
I agree. Too bad though. I would’ve thought FCA would’ve had a clutch from a diesel truck that would’ve fit but I’m probably thinking too simplistically. As you said I’m glad to get a manual at all.R&D not worth the minuscule demand. I’m happy that I was able to get a manual at all...
They found a middle ground by offering a manual with one of the 4 planned engine options to appease the purists who will never buy another new wrangler if the manual option can’t be checked.Just speculation, but with as well as the 8-speeds autos work - and that they can greatly improve fuel economy over the manuals, I'd bet FCA would want to drop manuals in favor of increased corporate fuel economy averages.
You're exaggerating with faulty data. The combined EPA rating of JLs & JLUs with 3.6 and auto are 20 & 20, respectively; with manual they are 20 & 19. (There are no 2.0s with manual, so we can't compare those.) Spending $2000 on the auto to save 0-5% in fuel (maybe $100 a year) is not economical.... they can greatly improve fuel economy over the manuals, I'd bet FCA would want to drop manuals in favor of increased corporate fuel economy averages.
This. Trust me outside niche groups like these forums there is next to no demand for manuals these days.R&D not worth the minuscule demand. I’m happy that I was able to get a manual at all...
