Just wanted to point-out that if you're outfitting your Jeep and doing some expensive parts replacement, to remember to check Amazon and other non-Jeep specific sites when doing price comparison.

I was looking for a deal on the Smittybuilt rear bumper.

Quadratec's listing: https://www.quadratec.com/p/smittybilt/src-gen2-rear-bumper-jeep-wrangler-jl
Extreme's listing: https://www.extremeterrain.com/smittybilt-src-gen2-rear-bumper-2018-jl.html

Both coming in at $700 before tax.

Amazon's listing: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F6HP6VL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Amazon's price came in at $497, a $203 savings!

To be fair, I read where @Quadratec (where I've been spending a lot of money lately) has price matching but I didn't think they'd go that far so I didn't call to ask. But I would have preferred to buy from them over Amazon.

Oh, and just because you're buying from Amazon doesn't mean that the installation instructions are any better; it's still a Smittybuilt product. ;)

I'd still buy from one of the 4x4 stores because Amazon isn't going to build you a reliable axle and ship it to you. I'm not sure about the two you mentioned but I know @Northridge4x4 does that so a little extra money here and there to keep that option in business makes sense to me.

Non-sequitur. For bolt-on parts, take the best deal unless you happen to be cursed with an abundance of money.

Personally, for custom work, I support local Jeep shops because I want to contribute to local businesses and local economy. The mega stores are there, imo, for purchasing bolt-on stuffs I can do myself on weekends. And, for that, the lowest price for the product gets the bid. Simple business. I'm not paying a 30% mark-up on a part just for "loyalty" when all I am to them is a record in a table in a database in their order-entry system.

I also appreciate the smaller vendors - and I try to buy direct from them when they allow it. (For example, I just took advantage of @InspiredEngineering July 4th sale on their LED lights.) Limiting your purchasing power to a single vendor just means you may be depriving yourself of other, more creative, and certainly cheaper, options when it comes to equipping your Jeep.

Fortunately, there's no "right" way to do it - that's what the Jeep life is about - do what suits you and your style. Caveat utilitor.

If you havent already, you might ping Quadratec about their forum discount. Other vendors on here also offer discounts. Could check NorthRidge4x4 and RiverCityOffroad.

The Northridge4x4 discount code is "jlwranglerforums".

Currently Smittybilt is at 15% off with the code.

Caveat: Discounts on products change as manufacturers decide when and how much can be discounted and some companies won't allow their products to be discounted at all.

"appreciating smaller vendors" and taking them up on a yearly sale only isnt even close to the same thing.

We got a non-sequitur, a caveat utilitor, a plain ol' caveat... so much Latin lingua thrown around here.

Another example:

Simple 4-switch panel for the dash:

S-Tech (Mfgr) Price: $269.99 (https://stechswitch.com/product/stech-4-switch-systems/)
Northridge Price: $269.99 (https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/switch-panels/stech-4-be-jl-m-s-tech-4-switch-micro-led-blue)
Amazon Price: $189.99 (https://smile.amazon.com/S-TECH-Wra...ircuits,+Blue&qid=1563027910&s=gateway&sr=8-1)

This doesn't include the additional $45 you have to spend on the cubbies to mount the switch/divide the existing space, mind you. Or shipping charges. Or tax.

I'm choosing to vote with my wallet thereby saving $80/~30% on the purchase price. And, I'm not cherry-picking items for effect -- these listings are based on items I'm purchasing for my Jeep today. Seems like if you shop around, you can save a ton of cash which can be saved... or used elsewhere...

Any vendor I choose to spend my money with, regardless if I pay full price or not, is a vendor I'm choosing to support because of their product features and price-point. I promise you, if you can consistently deliver decent and competitive price-points, I'll be a loyal spender.

Awesome! I've already started seeing a lot of price reductions from initial launch for JL add-ons. (Example - that DV8 hood has dropped a couple hundred dollars since it was first released...)

Market competition will eventually cause prices to stabilize to a reasonable point.
