No factory tow, brake controller power wiring?

I know without factory tow package there is no brake controller plug under the dash. But is everyone without the factory tow package wiring straight to the battery with a fuse or is there another set of wires that I’m missing?

Did you ever find a solution? Looks like I'll be doing the wiring to the battery. My concern is the issue with the manual override on the brake controller causing an error.

I know the Tekonsha 3024-P has a diode on the red wire to prevent the error, but if I'm not using the harness because of no factory plug, trying to figure out how to solve. . .
