Big Rig Radio is about the only place in town that does them. Might want to look into a dual band race radio, transmits longer and clearer than CB.

Sputternutz - What dual band do you use?

I was told you need a HAM license for them, do you know?
You do need a HAM license to "legally" use any HAM radio, including the UV5R (I have the same radio). Getting a license is pretty easy and leveraging hamstudy.org to prepare for your technician exam is very convenient.

Is the test online or do you have to go to a testing facility?

Testing facility.

If you want something other than CB, consider GMRS/FRS. Midland has a whole line of them and they are great. You need a license for GMRS but it’s an “application”.... no test....$70 good for 10-years for every member of your household.

I have hand held of those and they work great but not much range at all. Are the ones you are talking about better?

Well, i Intend to use only when convoying offroad. So range is not that important to me. However, there are a ton of “range tests” for gmrs online (YouTube) and while conditions/results will vary it seems that “many miles“ (I.e. 10+ or so) is a good estimate for a base unit with vehicle (small) antenna.

check it out.
