It should be as long as it's not caked in dirt. I found a flashlight made it a lot easier to read too.
I wouldn't be surprised to find your fame is within range of the recall. That or if they have an unofficial range that they'll replace outside the official recalled dates that yours falls into.
I'm much more comfortable knowing mine was made a month before the issue began, than I would be with it a month after it allegedly ended.
Looks like mine is a 196 which would have been after the fact. Looks like your conclusion may be correct! They definitely didn't recall enough vehicles for weld issues.

Sounds like they need to extend that recall to cover about another month of production. Unless they're dealing with them no hassle for those reported with production shortly after the official recall. Maybe they're doing that too, so it the recall doesn't look so bad, or there were less affected after June.
Keep us posted on how they take care of you.

Will do for sure! I went ahead and sent an email to Mike Manley as well to really get the ball rolling. I'm not wasting time. I've also had multiple welders look at it and every one of the agrees it needs to be bought back. Hopefully I'll have more info next week.

I just received my first response from Mike Manley's team. They showed true professionalism and a sense of urgency. They requested some details on the jeep and ensured me they would follow up with me next week. I have a good feeling next week will give me a good idea of where things are headed.

Mind if I ask when you took it in/response turn-around time/how you got in contact with this team? My car has been at the dealership since May 31st and I messaged JeepCares on June 6th, but nobody has contacted me at all since I took the car in otherwise.

Hi LateBraking,
I am sorry to hear that you have not been contacted by your case manager. I have requested your case manager reach out to you. If you do not hear from them within the next two business days, please let me know!

While not great they are not horrible. Seen worse ones. The ones under the frame rail are just boxing it in more. Fully flexing wont cause any damage to it. I agree they should reweld some spots, maybe new frame if its easier. But a lot of those arent terrible.
I have the same problem with my jeep with 10,000 miles on it.I have an appointment set up with the dealership they are going to clean up the welds rust proof and repaint them. I know they are aware of the problem with the welds and this is the fix they offered. I would contact FCA if I was you and they will step in and set an appointment up at a dealership to take pictures and then to fix the problem. I know this really isnā€™t the answer because it is a new jeep like mine but at least they are addressing the problem.

Ya I'm definitely not going to settle for a fix. What about all the welds you can't see covered by the body? On top of that, I'm not paying that kind of money for a new vehicle with frame weld repairs. I'll settle when they buy it back and put me in a new one. They sent another email today following up. The executive referral manager is talking to the dealership and following up again later this week.

Iā€™m not a welder and have limited experience with welding. Whatā€™s thyour best way for me to get this checked out on my 2018 that I just bought a few week short ago? Would a dealer tell me the truth?

I wouldn't trust a dealership to inspect it. Your best bet is to get up under and look all over at all the welds and look for welds resembling the pictures I shared.

@Rutterbg this will be difficult for me as I keep it in a parking garage in the city and also I donā€™t know what Iā€™m looking at. Any suggestions for how I can have a professional look at it? Iā€™m in NYC. Thanks.

Only thing I can recommend is finding someone this is a certified weld inspectors in your area to look at it. Ask friends and family, they ought to know at least one person who could help you out.

Honestly in cases like this the dealer isn't the ultimate problem, it's the decision maker that sits above them. This is above a dealer service adviser's pay grade and honestly there isn't much point getting mad at them if they've been helpful. I have problems with Puente Jeep, but that's because they are really frickin rude over there. So, a dealership will tell you it's fine after comparing it to the STAR documents available, or because that's what a dealership has been told to say.

For the pictures I posted prior, I was told that "rust spots under vehicle are normal due to driving and weather conditions." Not that there is no rust, but that rusted-through welds on a 1 year car in Southern California that has never seen salted roads or snow is perfectly normal. So yeah, if you just want your car looked at, take it to an independent. Qualified independents always better than dealerships. Always. For a variety of reasons.

I'm in SoCal otherwise I could recommend someone to you (C&C Collision is amazing over here) but my personal advice would be to take it to a qualified independent body shop/collision repair center that deals with major collision repairs with a skilled welder in their shop and has a Celette frame machine. Not because you need a Celette right now mind you, but because with the staff and equipment they are likely used to seeing far more than what you're gonna throw at them, and are more likely to give you a qualified inspection.

If you find rust issues, well....getting it fixed will be a whole different issue.

Mike MacDonald had me take in my Jeep for inspection on Friday. The service manager put my Jeep and another 2018 Wrangler up to compare the welds. Needless to say, the other wranglers welds were a thousand times better and we're what I expect on a vehicle. The service manager agrees it was definitely an issue and is hopeful FCA will take good care of me. He reached back out to FCA, as did I, and we're now waiting on a response. Hopefully I'll be in a new Wrangler before the end of the month!
