Oh don't you worry, you'll still be paying for it.

It will be reflected in a higher base price, that's all.
I'm sure, but if its not forced on me I wouldn't buy it.

And considering it was a $400 option previously, the hit is likely a little less with economies of scale and a full fleet deployment.

I have a feeling they will be using a new design combining current in-seat style inflation as well as body mount.

The A-pillar likely compliments the Seat based system, I think the B-pillar is often too far back.

It will be interesting to see what they implement, because the Wrangler is the only vehicle to my knowledge that has airbags in a design that has removable doors.

I would also like to see them add a centre bag to avoid driver-passenger collisions which currently are a negative in the IIHS test, and can see that being an issue for seats with only mild bolstering. The biggest problem I see with that is when drivers straddle the armrest and drive with their body leaing over the side of the seat (I do this to change position and also reduce in cabin wind noise with the roof partially open and to imorove radio listening). A deployment of a centre bag with someone blocking it might push their body into the dash.

For air bags that deploy from the seat back, what happens if you put seat covers on your seat then? does it eliminate the benefits of side airbags, or does the air bag just rip right through the seat cover?

I don't know how much faith to put in this, but someone mentioned a while ago, that the curtain air bags will be in the doors, and inflate up rather than the typical down.

BTW, just to mention, side air bags and curtain air bags are two different things. Even the JK has side air bags (optional).
