I have one of these, doesn't take up much room rolled up. Great incase of wet dog to keep the carpet from smelling, or if you need to protect the carpet from other stuff (bag of soil from Home Depot, etc.). https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073QJCJT9/

You could also get some Molle pouches to store more stuff - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BP2X2PY/ and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075M29RMY/

I bought this and store it in the center console - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4QP2O0/

What you take with you really depends on where youre going and who you are going with. If it's a place will cell service, take an extra battery for your cell phone plus basics like what you have. If it's completely off the grid (no cell service), bring everything people recommend plus a InReach GPS communications/tracker.

I always keep a breaker bar in my kit. It can be used in place of a tire iron and of course any other bolts you need to loosen...

If your going Off Road Rule #1 is Don't go out alone. That being said between both vehicles you should have a some kind of recovery strap and a fire extinguisher on top of what you already have. To save a little more space you can carry a jump pack instead of cables.

Personally I carry everyday in the cubby
tow strap
jump pack
small ratchet set
fire extinguisher
first aid kit
tire gauge

When I go Off-Road I have a tot bag that fits behind the seat (2 door) with a cooler that carries:
Battery power impact
a more complete sockets set(with impacts)
Allen and Torx sockets
Wrenches/pliers
Screwdrivers
Air compressor
4 way tire iron

I personally don't go anywhere anymore without a li-ion jumper pack and an OBD-II code reader.

30' (not 20') tow strap with loops (not hooks) and two clevii minimum

x2 on a breaker bar, you can get the 24" HF Pro for ~$10 with coupon most of the time

I went with the XG cargo bags on my roll bar, there's simply not enough room in that little compartment

Apparently jumper packs don’t work on the JL Wrangler :(

Ha! I've got that same Audi first aid kit in my storage area. Don't forget a tow strap.

Oh and grab a Safety Seal kit if you're feeling flush, or the basics from your FLAPS (friendly local auto parts store) if you're not.

I've crammed three plugs in a sidewall tear successfully to get me off the trail LOL

picked up a stray Liberty while out on the trails Memorial Weekend and they were clueless, had a strap and nothing else. not even a full size spare, and guess what? they cut the side wall almost rim to tread we spent 5 hours winching and stacking rocks to get them back to the trail head. the kicker was, the guy even said when he was researching tires the reviews said his tires had weak sidewalls.

I'll start with a fairly straightforward setup that I like.

REQUIRED Items to have in vehicle 24/7:

Jumper cables (the heavier and longer, the better!). Lithium ion jumper packs are good too.

Spare tire (a good one, fully inflated-full size is best)

Jack (and the knowledge how to use it.) Hi-Lift Rules.

Lug wrench (the ones shaped like an “X” are easiest to use)

Fire extinguisher rated for oil and grease fires, ABC is best

Small first aid kit

Flashlight-Spare batteries

Headlamp, Spare batteries

5 gallon gas can (store empty - do not store gas inside vehicle)

Maps- local, state, and national

Blanket/Poncho Liner

Spare set of clothes- Clothes for warmth/layers

Spare set of boots-good for walking and keeping feet warm

Gloves- Work and warmth ( Mechanix or nomex flight gloves/fleece contact gloves)

Long term food - MRE, energy bars, hard candy, nuts-change out every season

1 gallon of potable water-you can fill it ½ for winter freezing

Shovel (I recommend a snow shovel in winter, they work good in sand too)

Duct tape

Spare key

TP/baby wipes/wag bags

OPTIONAL/MISSION SPECIFIC:

Tow rope or chain

Tire chains (if driving in heavy snow and ice)

Winter camping clothes - wool shirt, pants, socks(2x), a sweater and jacket,

Tent/tarp

Toothbrush, razor, towel and bar of soap.

Backpack/BOB

Camera and accessories

WINTER:

Ice scraper

Road salt: Take an empty liquid detergent container-clean-and use for salt-works great

SUMMER:

Extra water (bottles are best since if there is a leak, you only lose one and they're portable). Whatever you think you need, bring double that amount for safety.

"The explorer would do well always to have on his person a compass, a light waterproof bag containing matches, a waterproof box of salt, and a strong, light, linen or silk fish-line with several hooks, a knife, and an automatic at his belt, with several loaded magazines for the latter in his pocket. Thus provided, if accidentally lost for several days in the forest, he will be provided with the possibility of getting game and making himself shelter and fire at night."
