Perfect timing...I just checked and they're 2" straps. I had them for some quads we used to run. Anyway, you can buy 2, 2" straps, 2 lag eye bolts and a couple 2x4's for under $50. You could buy the components of a harken for 2/3rds their selling price at most
Oh OK, yea the 2" ones are quite a bit cheaper.
So they have enough built in resistance to hold the top up after they have been released?

Yea, thanks I would create my own "harken" system, but think I am going to try some straps first as it looks pretty simple.

Yes. The straps go under the front of the hardtop and exit the rear and into the ratchet. I coil the entire strap into the ratchet and when released there is enough resistance and only the rear will drop, if at all without pushing down on the hardtop. I only lift the top up enough to drive the Jeep away so at most it's 1" above the body. The jeep gets backed into garage to remove top and I can pull in normally and the hood tucks in under the stowed top

What is it that you don't like about the Topsy hinge brackets?

To take it off...I invite my neighbor over for a beer...Then when I’m ready to put back on, I invite my neighbor over for a beer! Sometimes I even make him bring the beer!

Like many others I did the DIY heavy duty eyelets in the ceiling with ratchet straps and a 2x4 works great minus my 14ft ceiling. However, when building this contraption I saw these at Lowes. and I think it will be easier to maneuver and slide in and out (so to speak!). my plan is to use one up front and also under the rear section.

Tried to use my wife to remove the hard top but it appears now that a TLP is likely in my future  as i have no more room on the ceiling.

Speaking of Hard Tops, I am looking to buy a 2018 JL and can't find a good price on a 3 piece or even one piece hard top for it, any advice? It comes with the premium soft top as an upgrade but for the winter I want a hard top too.

I received my Topsy brackets today. They work great with 4 eye bolts and cam buckle straps.

We also recently installed the Harken hoist system for our hardtop. Straight forward installation that took about 2 hours for my son and I to rig. Pleased with how flush the top is with the ceiling of our 3rd bay garage. As we plan to leave the hard top off til winter will run additional straps off the hangers for secondary support per the instructions. I think I paid about $140 for the Harken system on amazon plus purchased a couple of 2x6s and some lag bolts from Lowes. We painted the 2x6s to match the ceiling prior to install.

We used some clamps to hang the soft top windows on the adjacent wall for easy access and hopefully prevent damage while not mounted to the Jeep.
