The VX is JLs top of the line amplifier and the XD is more of an entry level amp.
Depending on what you are looking for you may be happy with either but just like most things in life you get what you pay for but unless you are building something really high end the XD will be fine.

I have 6x JL Audio C2 speakers in my 2019 Jeep 2-door.

(2x 3.5" in dash, 2x 4" in knee area, and 2x 6.5" in the soundbar)

will the VX amp create better sound using the factory 7" radio verus using the XD amp?

It certainly has the ability to but there are so many variables to installing a great sounding system, after looking at them the VX has an on board DSP which is the price difference, in my opinion a DSP is a must for a good sounding system in these vehicles but you need to learn how it works.

You will also need an out put adapter such as the PAC AP4-CH41 in order to get a signal to your amplifier

The VXi Amps also have a per channel EQ and Crossover control that's accessible via a tablet or larger phone. It's essentially like having the JL TWK built in. There's really no comparison between the two. The HD is a good, solid amp. The VXi offers so much control and flexibility. Definitely worth the extra dollars, IMHO.

Steve, is the PAC AP4-CH41 proven to work consistently with the 18-19 JL's? If so, I'll update my other post. Thanks!

I'm not certain if it works reliably or not.... Also I don't if the OP has an out board or amplifier built into the factory head unit, with the later I would think the JL Fix-86 would work... however I don't have any direct experience with either of these setups yet.

Thank you both sooo much for your replies, I'm going into this blind and my 1st upgrades.

So are you guys saying I need this (LINK) in order to attach a DSP amp?

I have a 2019 JL Sport 2-door. I use the factory 7" radio.
It is not the alpine unit that came from the factory. I believe the amp is built-in into that factory deck.

It is either the $900 JL Audio VXL amp or the $429Alpine DSP amp which is much lesser cost.
Both have same DSP principal.

do I still need this item if my 7" radio has a amp built in?

It's really a personal preference as to whether you get the PAC device or not. First, I'm not 100% sure it works on our Jeeps, though it might. If it does, and you want to avoid cutting/tapping into the wires behind the stereo, then it would be a good, albeit expensive, option. If you don't mind cutting your OEM stereo wires, you can opt for the resistor option I outline in my thread. The resistors cost just a few bucks each, and the "Adding an Aftermarket Amp" thread also includes diagrams on how to use them.

You will definitely need an LOC. I've yet to see an amp that accepts the UConnect signal directly (admittedly, I haven't tested too many). The reason the JL Audio Fix86 (or comparable) option is consistently recommended relates to the fact that it helps to condition and balance your pre-amp signal. In other words, don't cheap out on your LOC, or you'll end up amplifying a highly EQ'd signal.

Hope that's helpful!
