Looking for suggestions on what to do. My soft top rattles in 2 places when the windows are down. One place is between the plastic support rail, that you put on for the soft top, and the top of the jeep where you bolt the hard top on at. I think the hole that the locator for the plastic rail is too big and the rail is moving around when the wind blows it. The second rattle seems to be the handle release at the back top of the soft top allows you to drop the soft top... Has anyone else have this going on with there soft top and if so how did you fix them from rattling?

Gary, a couple of thoughts:
  • Make sure the soft top's door hardware's screws are on firmly.
  • Please elaborate on exactly which windows you are referring to--the ones in the JL's doors or the 3 that form part of the soft top: even detailing which of those specific windows you refer to.
  • It might help if we have a common visual frame (no pun) of reference here. Maybe you can sight at what point in this video, and at what place in a screen image you refer to:

This is where the rattling is coming from. In the rattle from the pillar I think the clearance is TOO big for the 2 post that go down in the mounting holes for the hard top. The rattle from the handle in back I think it is just the handle engineered badly

I have the same rattling pillars. Wind with windows/top down or loud music with heavy bass makes plenty of noise. I tried putting some kinda thick weather stripping where you circled but it didn't help much if at all. Still seeking a solution...

I am thinking finding some kind of rubber grommet and putting it in the 2 clearance holes where the post sit in. then drilling the same size hole in the grommet that matches the post in the pillar to hold the pillar in place. It will act as a locator and an anti vibration pad

I was thinking something along that line, just haven't had a chance to try finding something that will do the job. Let me know if you find something.

Same rattling issues for the soft top surround pillars. Came up with my own solution after trying all sorts of failed attempts with weather stripping, dynamat and electrical tape. You can use the hardtop mounting holes - drill clearance holes at the bottom of the plastic door surround pillars. There should be a slight marking on the seal tape where pillar sits over the hardtop mounting location. You can then use a hardtop bolt to tighten the pillar down. It takes a little finesse to load the bolt, and it’s impossible to get a tool in there, but finger tight helped my rattling issues.

From what I am seeing Jeep needs to come out with a fix so that the 2 locating tabs that go down in the rail on the jeep, have some kind of rubber gasket or seal that goes in either the hole in the rail or the around the tabs. This would stop the rattle even if it did move a bit in the holes

I thought of this too, but ONLY as a last resort. It probably would void the warranty somehow if you drill holes in the plastic

I found something that seems to work - I found some rubber grommets at a local hardware store (Menards). I just put these in the holes in the tub of the Jeep, then carefully put the pillar on. Had to hold the grommets toward the back of the Jeep from underneath - they tend to slip through otherwise. End result - ZERO NOISE, doesn't move at all!!!! Best $2.95 I've ever spent!!!
