Ordered on 2/11, picked up on 3/18 from Fitzpatrick’s in Connecticut. The options I got were the 3.6 Pentastar motor, Automatic transmission, Anti Spin Differential, Alpine Audio, and a Fuel Cap.
Here’s pictures at work on date of pick up.
The first thing I did was switch out the front grille the following day.
A few days later, I installed OEM side steps I got for cheap, installed a roof rack for my surf fishing rods(I was halfway down in picture, lol) and local tire shop put on new rims.
I was very happy with the rims, but once I took the stock ones off I felt something was off with my Jeep visually. I couldn’t put my tongue on it, but driving it around every day I was disappointed with how smooth the ride was. Honestly, it was way too nice. That’s when it dawned on me that I should get the new tires. The Kevlars are good tires, but not what I want out of my Jeep. They ride too nice, aren’t aggressive enough, and are small. I was hoping to ride them out and save $$$, but that didn’t work out. I feel they would be perfect on a smaller SUV that’s viable off-road but meant for the street, like the new Cherokees.
I love Duratracs on my JKU, so my decision was really easy. Only difference now is I got 285/70/17 instead of 255/75/17. I was hoping to find cheap Rubi take offs at first, but couldn’t find any at a reasonable price. Most people had them as a combo with rims too. I couldn’t find Ram Rebel takeoffs either since they come stock with 285/70/17 Duratracs.
The new tires made a world of difference. She drives exactly how I want it to now. It’s hard to put into words, but the ride is much better for my tastes now. My taste is for a Jeep ride, not a normal one. It’s more rugged, slows down easily without hitting brakes now, and just feels right. I absolutely love it. They improved the ride from the JK while still keeping it rugged and Wrangler like.
Here she is with new tires.
I’m not sure what’s coming up next.. My work is getting into the busy time of year and now that it’s striped bass season most of my free time is spent fishing. At some point, I’m going to install a lock for the hood latches and tint the windows. In the future, I will probably regear to 4.10 and add steel bumpers, but I’d do that out of warranty period.
