- I recently purchased a Jeep Rubicon 2019 model. It was the exact match of everything I ever wanted in a Jeep and I finally had the right timing and everything for it to make the purchase. This is in late February 2019. I drive the vehicle off the lot to head home. I lived an hour away at the time from the SoCal dealership. The check engine light came on as I hit the highway. I did not think much of it as I thought maybe the gas cap just wasn’t screwed on all the way. In the morning I had to go back to the dealer to turn in my title for the vehicle I traded in. The check engine light still remained on... This vehicle had under 100 miles on it and now only two highway trips and less than a dozen hours under my ownership. They sent it to get serviced immediately and had to keep it over night for diagnostics. In this time, I almost wasn’t even offered a rental but eventually managed to get one.
- The next day, I receive a phone call from the service manager saying they need to order a “new valve body”. This was a shock since the original isn’t an “old” one and it passed for a working vehicle to be sold to me. I’m not worried about cost at this point because rental is covered and the warranty is not only covered for new purchase but I also purchased six year full coverage since this is a huge investment into my favorite Jeep I’ve come across. Estimated arrival of new valve body was 2/25/19. About a week later from the manufacturer to dealer. I get a phone call the next week. The parts been delayed.
- The part has been delayed week by week and is now delayed until 4/25/19. Two months anticipated without the vehicle I am already paying car notes on. Needless to say my frustration was real the whole month of March with every individual delay and even more so in April. I am a travel nurse by profession and now I am leaving for work into a different county in the middle of all of this to add extra stress.
- I finally get someone to help me escalate this up the chain of command because I’m almost at the point of getting legal counsel for arbitration since the manufacturer keeps delaying the part to the dealer to get replaced. Upon the first couple of people who get involved higher up I finally get some news other than parts being delayed.
- There is going to be a buy back of the vehicle and I will be contacted within the next couple of weeks regardless of if the part is in on time or not. I am glad for some news but I have zero experience with this. My question is, will I be fully covered and not required to pay a cent more? Will I be able to have the exact same vehicle replaced for the buy back since it was literally everything I wanted? How lengthy and difficult is this process? Is this common? Can I ask for extra money even? I have found little Jeep info on this outside of a thread from 2018. Thank you for any input as I am constantly working and trying my best to avoid as little headache, added stress, and definitely loss of money, as possible. Thanks!
