The Roof Rack List (JL / JLU Wrangler)

While waiting for the backbone, I picked up the Mopar roof rack...you can add a basket to that and be good to go. I liked how wide the feet are that attach to the gutters. I believe the racks are made by Yakima.

Any idea what the weight limit is for the mopar rack? I didn’t see it listed on their site.

It’s odd but I looked for it in the installation instructions and not even a mention regarding it besides it’s actual weight.

There is a Mopar basket that can be added to it so I think the 70lbs distributed should be fine.

Installed the Maximus-3 rack to the car over the weekend. Their customer service is awesome, had a discount for this forum, and the rack looks amazing. Will post pictures as soon as I can.

I didn't read all 38 pages so can someone tell me if they know if the bestop sunrider works with the Gobi Stealth roof rack?

Just installed the Evo Mfg gutter mount rack. What is nice with the cheaper price and no drilling, comes with the lack of weight carrying capabilities. Very sleek and aerodynamic looking. I'm probably going to design my own light weight RRT for it. The Baja Design light idea came from my first responder past and @American Jeeper. I fed all wiring through split wire loom tubing and through the rear window hinge, inside through brake light, then back out and followed the frame to front for Rubi aux switches (rather easier than it sounds). Might do side alley lights.

I'm not sure if anyone has looked at Exposed Racks. https://www.smsparts.com/racks or it has been mentioned in this thread yet. They emailed me back today and they said they are going to have a 2 door JL version come out in the next couple weeks(4 door is already out). If anyone else like me is having trouble finding a rack for a 2 door JL soft top this looks promising. The soft top can apparently go over the rack and still close, leaving the Sunrider option possible. It also can be interchanged to a hard top if you own both.

I just spoke with George, the guy who runs SMS and created Exposed Racks, as I was a little confused about the different products available and the capabilities of each. There’s a pdf on the website that lists the different products, but he noted that it’s slightly outdated, as a new Overland model (95xx series?) is about to be released specifically for the JL, likely within the next few days. Despite mounting to the hard top gutters, the new model has more points of weight distribution, enough to support a RTT. The same rack can be used for heavy loads under the soft top, though of course the top would have to be completely down to make use of it.

I've been checking this page every day for the past 3 weeks waiting for someone to post that the day has come. I dont want to spend $800 on a temporary rack that isn't rated to haul my kayak.

Take a look at the SMS Auto Parts Exposed Rack. Looks perfect, and can work with and without the hardtop. Best of all, cheap. Haven’t tried it yet, but it looks awesome.

I don't have a JL yet but I do have a JKU with a Gobi Stealth rack and I can guarantee you that the sunrider position is not an option. The top is either all the way down or all the way up. For this reason I switched to an after market soft top.
