Finally installed my system! Only took 3 months of it sitting in my house looking all dejected..(and the assistance of 3 others).

Installation took longer than expected because...drinks..but I'm glad that the brackets come designed to adjust to a good degree (I'm not confident all my measurements were perfect, take your time!).

With all that said, just ordered my roof top tent and it's a coming. @Maximus-3 , earlier in the thread you mentioned a specific roof top tent mounting solution utilizing lag bolts that drop into the platform. Is this lag-bolt kit for sale directly from you? I haven't found it in your online store.
Might also try 1 5/8" channel nuts. They come threaded in 5/16" and 3/8". These work perfectly in the Pioneer Platform channels.

Nice call @DeekT, channel nuts are extremely useful for the Maximus-3 roof rack with Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform. Most accessories and holders mount to the rack with channel nuts. We sell channel nuts, if anyone needs them give us a call.
Cheers

That's how I'm mounting my RTT. I have 1/4" rubber and 5/16" channel nuts ordered and as soon as the weather clears up a little I will be putting it all together.

Another thing to keep in mind is with the channel nuts and correct heavy duty washers and eye bolts you now have universal tie down locations that install in seconds.

Absolutely, please be sure to share pictures and feedback of your custom RTT mount. It will help countless people who are looking for clever RTT mounting options. Cheers.

Here it is on my JK. It sits a bit higher off the rack but it’s so simple to get the tent locked into position. I don’t have a pic of the JL with tent on yet. Just got the Maximus 3 setup installed last weekend.

How are folks carrying kayaks on the pioneer platform?
I think my kayaks are a bit too wide to do 2 side by side when laying them flat. I'll need something to support them standing up I figure.

Has anyone hoisted their top up using eye bolts? I have an old LJ hoist t bar that I used for my LJ, JK, and eventually my JK with the pioneer platform. Wondering if eye bolts would be better than using the hooks under the rack.

Evening all - I have the Maximus-3 (short) rack mounted on my JL. My RTT (ARB Simpson III) is currently mounted on my trailer, but considering moving it to the roof rack... a couple of questions:

1) Hey Maximus-3! Is it possible to upgrade the short rack to the long rack without completely replacing the existing?
2) What are the crossbars that mount the tent to the Pioneer Platform? Can I get pictures and maybe a parts list (cross bars, mounting brackets)

Awesome setup.. thank you all!!!

Hey for those of you who have done this install I had a quick question. Wouldn't it be easier to mount the brackets onto the rolle bars first, place top on and just mark the holes where the bracket touches the inside of hard top. Then just pull top back a bit, drill and move it back forward and bolt it right up. It just seems like extra work to remove top, measure, and do all these measurements and then put it back on.

Good question. I wondered the same thing prior to doing mine last week. Easier to drill? Yes, but likely not accurate enough to mount the platform. You could do something silimar to that if you were just mounting some feet and crossbars. The brackets are intentionally highly adjustable, so I wouldn’t reply on them as a template.

On mine, I used the platform to measure it per the instructions, then removed the feet from the RR platform and used them with two RR heavy duty bars. Now, I can either mount the platform to the bars (raising the height a bit) or with a little more effort, remove the bars, remount the feet on the platform and install as originally intended. I did not have to remove the hard top, just the freedom panels of course. Be Advised - drilling fiberglass/polyester is a dusty mess. DO NOT breath that junk. Use a mask and don’t vacuum it out in a confined area. (I’m sure you all know this already, just reminding ya).

I'm torn between sunrider top with short platform or no sunrider and long platform... .. Ughhh. Havent had either so hard to say. Also torn between 1 or 2 ladders. Did I mention I'm torn between flat top (longer items like ladder, boards sit better) or one with rails (added safety and looks cool). I'm not helping much with this thread am I???

I’m in same dilemma about rails. I went Long platform because I think it looks better imo. Also I think I’m going 2 ladders instead of 1 and rails on top. I may just buy 1 ladder and get the other later down the road.

Hi @Dalingrin,

To carry multiple kayaks you'll need a holder such as the folding J-Style Kayak Carrier from Rhino Rack. I can get you any of their accessories.
Hope this helps

Hi @cmmurray77

1.) Hoisting by the roof rack for storage purposes is NOT Recommend.
2.) You could hoist up the rack/roof, move the jeep out of the way, and then lower the rack/top safely to the ground.

Basically suspending the rack for any significant amount of time will greatly increase your chance of "fiberglass creep" or "fiberglass fatigue"
