The only issue with anything besides CB is whether or not your group has those other capabilities. Frankly, I don't want several different installations of radio gear shoehorned in every space. I may just go handheld or the Cobra. I'm not all that chatty on radios anyway. Lots of chatter, not much of it worth the noise.

For rescue, I'm likely getting a Garmin InReach or similar PLB/satcom for my hunting anyway.

Typical Cobra CB install. Went with CB antenna kit on quadtratec. Very sturdy and easy to install.

Got a link for that kit? It's exactly what I'm looking for... Thanks in advance!

I mounted my 4' FireStik using the QTec kit this weekend. I used an old Midland 75-822, but was able to get 1.4 on the SWR meter across all 40 channels. Works great.

For those that have run their antenna cable through the tailgate hole, does the fire-ring and/or a standard PL-259 connector make it through both sides without issue?

I used this cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000X3C8L8/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It comes with the PL-259 separate so you have to solder it on once installed. I punched a hole in the grommet using a leather punch to ensure I still had a leak tight seal. It is rather difficult feeding the cable through the tailgate, so I would imagine even more so if it had a connector on the end.

Here is my own DIY design. One piece of aluminum flat stock, some GB weld, and the factory cb bracket. No-drill install using a stock console bolt.

I went with the Uniden CMX660 mounted like this but with double stick tape because I have issues drilling holes into parts and with a Manual Transmission, there isn't as much room as you get with the Auto (photo borrowed from @TJEli ). For antenna mount, I with the CoolTech Kit because it came with the Mount, cable, and Antenna. I haven't had a chance to talk a whole lot with the radio but I think it will meet my needs quite nicely.

That's a sweet looking little radio. My mount idea is a no drill as well. If you pop the circular cover off the side of the console, the factory bolt I used is there.

The antenna mount I made is just a dremeled piece of angular stock mounted to existing tailgate bolt openings.

Another DIY CB Mount... Pictures of parts and tools used follow, along with shots of the rough prototype installed. Metal bar war purchased from Lowe's and large heat-shrink was secured from Amazon. Used a vice, rubber mallet and flat headed vice grips to form/twist the metal bar, then heat-shrinked the modified bar to blend and protect the center console. Used the stock bolt at the bottom console mount and the CB's stock screw to secure the CB to the bar. Very simple and CHEAP!

I had been using industrial Velcro, but it wouldn't hold up in the heat. This is a cool, semi-permanent solution that doesn't require drilling into the console.

PS: That's a "Magic Mic" magnetic mount holding the CB Mic.

I've had this hand held for a bit...a recent trip to NC cost me $160 speeding ticket, which I could have avoided had I put this back into the jeep when I switched my gear from the Subie....I went with the simplest mount that I could think of...knowing I won't have the greatest range, but it is easily removable and storable....[GALLERY=]
