Knock in rear with Dana 44

Ok y’all, I’m very sorry to say my issue is returning, just started the rotational knocking/clunking noise again today. Same issue, happens slow speeds when off accelerator and coasting to stop or slow speed. To say I’m frustrated would be an understatement!! @JeepCares

I have this same issue. I just got my wheels/tires put on and it has the same clunking noise in the front when under 20mph.

Sahara with the Dana 44 as well.

I will be making a service appointment.

@JeepCares do we have a sizeable amount of people with this common issue resulting in any type of recall or standard fix for all Dana 44 owners?

Your noise is from the front? All others have noise from rear diff area( Dana 44 lsd) your front is not a 44 either. Hopefully FCA gets something figured out though. I was skeptical my fix would last, but noise was gone and all was good after rear differential assembly and axles were replaced until yesterday (been repaired about a month and approx 1500 miles) now noise has returned. Good luck getting yours sorted out. Be sure and road test with technician so they can verify your noise complaint before you drop it off.

Yeah mine sounds like it’s from the front and rotational. Unless for whatever reason it’s rear and I’m hearing differently

Taking my JL back to the dealer next week. It’s gotten to the point that I can hear and feel the clunking on my steering wheel and pedals at 30-40 mph. Here’s to hoping this gets resolved quickly.

Plus the clunking noise is louder at 5-15 mph. It just hit 6k miles. FCA has to be tracking this issue.

Another appointment today....they disconnected the drive shaft to the rear diff, then put it in 4X4 to hear if the clunk noise was gone. Unfortunately they DIDN'T call me to road test and the service technician indicated that he didn't hear the noise prior or after trying. Let's just say in kind words "I was annoyed". I talked again to the shop foreman, explained my frustration and told him that I had cleared my schedule for the day to be able to come at a moments notice to test ride with the tech. He looked annoyed at the service advisor for not telling them that! I then told him that it is EVERY time I drive the unit, and that I can take him or them for a ride to demonstrate .....so off we went with the tech and service advisor. I showed them repeatedly what speed and how the noise appears, and of course without any issues the noise was there and quite loud. They are going to come up with a plan to try and figure this out....but I'm growing very impatient now.

I'll keep you all updated if anything is figured out

I just dropped mine off at the dealer today. But at least they gave me another JL as a loaner. Any findings I'll be sure to post up here .

I was unsure if it was coming from front or back, but I installed a front locker and immediately afterward the noise amplified. It was there before but definitely increased after. That leads me to think mine is coming from front. I have almost 15k miles and this has been going on for quite some time. Finally getting in for a service call this week.

So just got word from my dealer. Rear end is chewed up, parts are on order won’t be in for one week. And it’s not driveable. They couldn’t tell me exactly what failed. I’ll get more info and keep y’all updated.

Sounds exactly like my situation, hopefully and new rear differential assembly and new axels will help, keep us all posted as to cause of failure if they tell you more. Mine was fixed for almost 2k miles but now noise is slowley returning, best of luck!
