I have a 2018 JL Rubicon. First thing I did was swap out for 35" tires on my stock wheels. I then added the 2" Mopar lift for off-roading and no regrets! However, after seeing posts I should have went with a 37" tire. I am debating between 17x9 or 18x9 - and most likely the Fuel wheels. My preference is 18" vs. the 17" on a 37" tire. Curious what the negatives are going with an 18" especially for off roading? Appreciate everyone's help and pictures in advance!

I think the big negative would be cost of both wheels and tires. The larger the rim the more $$. Obviously you would have less sidewall for flexing so a firmer ride?

But no less sidewall than 35s on 17s, and never hear of anyone complaining about that. Think about it, yes the rim gets larger by 1 inch, but so does the sidewall on 37s. Same ratio of rim to tire...

I agree, but was just tossing it out. I think the big one would be tier and rim costs and tire availability

Bumping this because I am looking at going 37 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on 18x9 Methods and finding pics of anyone running 18s is tough. Mine will be a MOAB with TeraFlex ST2 + .5" spacers, Falcon 3.1s, 2.2 Stabilizer and Jounce bounce stops.

Seems like a reasonable upgrade all around. I'm surprised so few have done it. To me you still get plenty of sidewall, but also a bit more wheel.

I am leaning heavy towards 38s on 20s...

I like the look of 38-40 on 20's also, just as much sidewall as a full 35 on 17, my puny front axle would get chewed up pretty fast with anything that big/heavy

@Darkness Oops, didn't realize you had a MOAB. Yeah, I probably wouldn't trust anything greater than 37s if I was you. Even that might be pushing it a bit.

Thats what 4.88s and a new front driveshaft are for. Lots to see about how the D30 with CV joints does, but I have run 35-37s on two different TJ Sports back in the day without issue, and ran 37s on my last JKUR with a long arm kit and didn't have issues there either, don't bounce on rocks really ever so should be ok. I like the idea of something a bit different with the MOAB, more all around use. Rubis are awesome, but reality is, most people never engage the lockers much less disco the sway

Great looking Jeep, what lift are you running?
I have the Rubicon Express 2.5”. I had JKS shocks and replaced last week with Falcon 3.3’s.
