The line load off the winch will always be restricted by the winch capability. In rough numbers, with a 9500lb winch, the line leaving the winch is restricted to 9500lbs. When the line goes through a snatch block the load on the line remains at 9500lb. If you redirect the hook end of the line back to the Jeep, then there is a 9500lb pull on the winch end and a 9500lb pull on the hook end ... a net of 19,000lb on the Jeep. The winch line never sees more than 9500lb.

Nice job explaining it @47Jeepster.

I'll add that the anchor point for your snatch block (pulley block) and the snatch block itself will see the 19,000lb load on them (if using 9.5K winch), so anyone making a double line pull make sure your equipment is up to par.

I went with the Smittybilt X20 12000lb.
Brand simply my choice. Choosing capacity, I believe this is pretty much the same across the board, verify if you know.
My research showed the Smittybilt X20, 10,000 lb draws 270 amps with a 6000 lb load. The X20, 12000lb draws 217 amps with a 6000 lb load.
My conclusion was the 12000lb would generally pull 6000lbs with less strain on motor. As I understand it those ratings from Smittybilt are on a single line pull. While using a snatchblock increases pulling capacity (something I don't think I need), in my case using a snatchblock block would decrease the amps drawn even further on a 6000 lb pull.
Who can tell me if I understand this right?

Will be running a 8000lbs warn, heavy girl but has a nice unloaded line speed

Wife’s JKU runs a 10,000 ENGO, was going to put a 8000 on but for the few bucks more and faster line speed I opted for the 10
And good friend runs the X2O, great winch with a awesome price. Never had an issue with it other than the switch to turn on the wireless stopped working. Just has to plug the controller in that’s all

Since the topic has taken a slight tangent ... has anybody relocated their solenoid pack off the winch and under the hood in JL? If so, where ... and pics would be great. Or, send me to the thread showing it
I'm also interested to see pictures of a relocated their solenoid pack. I can't find the Warn relocation pack dimensions, and am unsure if there is even any space large enough under the hood of a 2.0.

I ordered the Warn VR 10-S. I had a hell of a time deciding between that and the Smitty X20 w/synthetic and still not entirely sure the extra $250 on the Warn was the best use of money but I guess they at least have a reputable name a good warranty.

I decided to get something proven, robust, and well built - Warn Zeon 10-S. I'm impressed with the build quality, as well as the line speed (spools in VERY fast both under load and with minimal load). I've owned several winches (Warn 9000i, and a Smittybilt X20) and this is definitely the nicest winch I've run on a rig of mine to date. I'm a fan of the Zeon 10-S, and especially comfortable knowing it's reputation as darn near bulletproof.

How have you liked the Warn VR? I'm looking for a winch now & have same thoughts between X20 & VR10-S

Been fine. Only used it once to pull a stuck Subaru that was somewhere it shouldn't have been. If I did it over again I'd probably have just got a cheaper one but no complaints on the Warn VR.

I've had my Warn VR-10 for 2 seasons now. I've used it to recover a friend's dad's car who slid into a ditch, and myself several times while at Rausch Creek. It's well worth the money IMO for the Warn support and warranty, and stacks up against my old XD8000i so far- which I bought second hand, and it lived on the front of my past 2 TJ's since 2007, and now lives on my buddy's 03 Rubi. It never failed me and when I needed some spare parts (solenoid) I got them from a local Warn dealer, despite the winch being discontinued in the mid 2000's.

Had Warn, Engo, and SB X20. Cheap SB X20 never let me down, Engo was ok. Warn got water logged. Bought a X20 12K for this rig.

I’m sporting a 9500lb with synthetic rope... I say sporting because it will only be used as a last resort... I go off-road by myself mostly so I don’t do anything crazy.

Running a 12K with a synthetic rope, seemed like good value for the money though haven't had to use it yet.

Anyone running the SmittyBilt X2O's? Thinking of going with this 10k winch for the price. Also are synthetic Ropes worth it?
Many call them ShittyBilt for a reason.

If you want to go that route you might as well go HF BadLands as when it fails and if still on warranty most likely a local swap.

They are very good winches these days. I've got an XRC9500 that has been great and has done a few big pulls with no sweat. My other winch is a 10 or so year old Engo. Still runs like a champ, although it makes one helluva racket. Always has.

I know many guys in Jeep clubs with the Smittybilt XRC and X2O series winches and none have had any issues with them.

The Smittybilt X20 have a limited lifetime warranty, and their warranty process so far has been pretty easy.

That said, I currently run a Warn Zeon 10 on my JK and a Warn 8274 on my old FJ40. They are local here in the NW and real good people to deal with.
