I wanted to keep you guys in the loop about an issue with the KMC XD231's, and the beadlock bolts rusting.

This is now a known issue, and KMC isn't owning up to, (Chris @ KMC please chime in) so I'd like to make this public. I know of at least 3 other trucks that have this same issue. KMC isn't zync plating the bolts on these rims, and they are rusting, within 1 month. See the pictures below, and be wary of purchasing these rims before they resolve this issue, or ship with Zync plated bolts. The bolts appear to be black oxide steel.

I'll have to fork over the $100 to replace all 5 rims with replacement bolts.
Own up KMC and fix this.

All pictures are within 3 months, with the last being the oldest.

I’d be pissed. I hope they make it right. No one is going to want to fork over money for wheels that do that within a month.

I spent the $90 on new bolts, got 0 support from KMC. Really disappointing.
The new ones from McMaster Carr are still looking great.

I'm looking at the 232's, but I'm assuming all black rims will be the same...thanks for the heads up!!

I have had the black 231s mounted for a month now. They have gotten wet, but I don't drive it when there is any salt on the road due to snow. No issues yet. :fingerscrossed:

Any update on the xd231's? I called the national wholesaler for KMC (Wheel Pros) to see if they fixed the bolt finish. They had heard of the rust issues, but didnt know if it's been corrected. I asked for the KMC corporate phone number to check with them and "they didnt know it". I tried googling it and naturally cant find anything. The call ended with....so there is a known issue of the wrong finished bolts being sold and rusting within 2 months on a $450/ea premium beadlock wheel and future customers are supposed to assume it's been fixed and shell out $2k? Really odd/bad customer service.

A little off topic but where did you get the caps from? Just installed the 231’s myself with no rusting yet

Just generic caps, I measured the distance of the hub and purchased some. I think KMC made changes to their bolts, this was a clear problem before.

I’m having the same issue with my 232s. 6 months in and basically every single bolt is rusted. Working through Northridge right now to fix. Sounds like KMC is going to send me new bolts but want the old ones back because they “haven’t heard of this before”. I told the Northridge person to send this thread to the KMC rep and tell them they are outright lying.
