Christmas eve I was staring at some time off so I had to have some reason to keep my mind busy. I downloaded Shadows of the Colossus on PS4 for $15 bucks so I could keep myself from getting so stir crazy. Wouldn't you know it.... there is a section in that game that reminded me of Long Canyon in Moab so jokingly I told the wife we should go to Moab. After all, we just moved to Colorado to be closer to this kind of fun we enjoy.

Quietly, she figured it all out. Found our place to stay. Booked it. Then said... let's go. So Christmas day we loaded up all our junk and pointed West. Here are some of the pictures I took along the way. I have the whole deal on video but the pics seem to be easier to deal with so I thought I'd share them.

I70 West of Denver. The Rockies greeted us with snow capped peaks. Being close to the mountains is great. But these aren't my favorite.

These are. The LaSal mountain pass. I could get into the reasons why but it boils down to this mountain being the first time I've ever enjoyed just being in awe of some place.

2.jpg

Took us around 6 hours to get to Moab. We weren't in a rush and enjoyed our trip to our glamping spot with 2 car garage.

3.jpg

Boomer was exhausted. The dogs are a huge reason why we sold the TJ and bought the JL. We wanted to take them with us. This was their first wheelin adventure!

Day 1 was short. Friendly reminder when you go snow wheelin.... don't go alone. After playing the game and having Long Canyon on the trail that's the one we chose. We drove out having ran it earlier this year going up. This time we followed the book going down. The first switch back there was plenty of traction down to the landing. The next grade was much steeper and we just started sliding. The Jeep turned 90 degrees to the left and stopped. We had to winch our way out with only 1 rock we could hook up to. It was a solid sheet of ice all the way down and we escaped without much drama.

I took this pic from the video as we were both shaken so much that we didn't take many pics.

That's facing the wall that is usually on your left going down the trail.

The evening of day 1 we hopped on the Moab Friends for Wheelin page on Facebook and asked for some assistance in guiding us on trails that were for sure less treacherous. So we ran Onion Creek and Fisher Towers.

You can see the priest and 2 nuns in the back drop.

I saw a rock that reminded me of you.

Snow everywhere changed the scenery for the best. I've been to Moab 5 times now and the views this go round were spectacular.

7.jpg

How Onion Creek got it's name. The wife kept blaming me. I kept blaming the dogs. Until she read in the book that the smell is sulfur. :)

More awesomeness.

Free range hamburger. The dogs were telling it to stay away.

Fisher towers is a short out and back with a trail you can hike. There were a bunch of people out there and it was cold so we didn't do the hike.

Day 3 I was greeted to a beautiful site with only a few clouds in the sky.

We ran out to see hidden canyon and ended our day on 3-D.

Day 4 there wasn't a single cloud in the sky and the mountain was fantastic.

115.jpg

We loaded up and decided to run Chicken Corners. The dogs were ready to go.

Day 5 we loaded up and pointed East towards home.

122.jpg

We were greeted to a train on the tracks on I70 by Glenwood Springs. I love that section of highway.

123.jpg

And home.

If you have never been you will find out the red dirt makes its way into everything.

125.jpg

So the Jeep needed a bath so I don't get red dirt to the face when wrenching!

September is a great month to go. Do you know which trails you plan to run when you're there?

I have never done Top of the World, so we would like to do that one. Probably Fins and Things, Hell’s Revenge. We will be there end of September, first week of October so Lasalle Pass to leaf peep. We usually just play it day by day.

Last time I was there in a stock 2 door Rubicon and had a blast running the easier trails. Did Elephant Hill that trip for the first time and really enjoyed it.

I'm game. We stopped in Eagle to fuel up on our trip out. Where do you go around where you are?

I have a few mods coming up over the next month that will render the Jeep inop. I'm game any time after that!!

You pick. Easy to tough. Hagerman Pass, Mosquito Pass, Holy Cross, Halfmoon Creek, Ect. Those are just the better known ones, all by Leadville. Prolly won’t run HC again. I have a Power Wagon on 37’s so I would probably run it in the X3 CanAm unless I find a 2 dr JLR in the mean time. Earliest trail opening would probably be Hagerman Pass. There are so many between you and me it’s crazy.

Couple pics. Fun trails. All the Leadville stuff is fun.
