I was PUMPED to see this thread, it’s exactly what I want to do to my rims to get rid of the shiny metal.

Thank you for the detail. As someone new to taking paint off of metal, can you share what exactly you used by Scotch Brite? I see regular scrubby sponges, metal pads that look like SOS pads, and then there’s the “Clean and Strip” disc.

I know this is a newb question, but don’t want to get it wrong.

You don't have to remove all of the paint. You just want to scuff it up to give the new coatings something to grab on to.

They look good. I gave up on repairing rock rash. Rock rash gives it character. My JL actually looks weird to me because my prior jeeps, while very nice, were trail rigs and had a lot of rock rash. I feel like my JL has no soul conpared to the other two. It will get there though.

I don't think I will ever give up on repairing rock rash. Rust is a killer. Paint is made to protect. So I always go over everything after we play. It's pretty easy considering we lived in Kansas. So we didn't get to play as much as we like. So we moved to Colorado. I hope my motivation to keep stuff clean and nice sticks around. :)

Ahh... now that’s good to know, I would have wasted a HUGE amount of time. Thank you!

My wife must have a sister, she hasn't told me about ;). We debated colors, but picked up our white JLU this past Friday. Loving it! But definitely need black wheels until I upgrade.
Did you ever paint your wheels black?

I found the self etching primer, but can’t find the rust oleum semi gloss

is the semi gloss rustoleum the standard “semi-gloss Protectice Enamel”? Or is there a better version that you used. Thanks in advance
