Road trip from Detroit recommendations

Hi everyone,

This is my first jeep so I'm new to off roading. Thanksgiving week, I'm looking at doing a road trip. I was originally thinking Pigeon Forge area but I'm not sure if there are places to go off roading there.

Does anyone have any recommendations of where to go? I'd like to stick to a trip no longer than 10-12 hours. I have a 5 and 8 year old so ideally I'd like other things to do in the area as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Pigeon Forge is best explored on a non-holiday IME. It is crazy busy now. You can barely drive down the road. I highly recommend going at a less busy time.

That said, Gatlinburg is a beautiful place and worth visiting. I just will never go at peak vacation time again....
