I pull a Viking 17Bh with my JKU. Haven't got my JL yet so can't speak to it but part of the reason I'm upgrading is for better towing. The JL has better brakes, I'm going Rubicon this time to get the higher gears and bigger axles. I need to sleep 5-6 people so the Viking is great but if I only needed to sleep 2 and I was going cross country I'd get the little guy mini max. 6 feet head room, 5cu foot refrigerator., decent size wet bath, off road package available, easy bed set up that can be queen or 2 twins and less than 2000lbs. As to the factory tow, definitely get it. In the JL it's not just the hitch and wiring. It also includes an upgraded transmission cooler, 4pin and 7 pin harness, ability to add electric brake controller built in and something else I'm forgetting. Well worth the money especially if you'll be towing a lot. There is a Jeepers that Camp Facebook page with lots of info on trailers people are pulling, mostly JK's but weight limit is the same so you can see lots of options.
Thank you

Towed my (new to me) 2013 Forest River MAC 228D with a sticker wieght of 2,750 lbs. It was only a 30 min or so trip home with some residential, 55 mph highway and 70 mph interstate (a whole 5 miles of it). But, the Jeep pulled it great, no problems at all. I even noticed that the transmission got up to 8th gear on the interstate!

Just registered here! This is what we are towing with our 2015 Jeep Wrangler. The Max weight of this trailer is 3500lbs. It towed fine at highway speed for the 130km trip back home. The dealer also sold me a weight distribution hitch with sway control to keep the thing stable. The trailer is a 2019 Sportsman Classic 181bh.
