- I would say it’s not so much the width of the tire but the type of tire.Thank you - that’s extremely helpful!!
Feeling comfortable on snowy mountain roads is a major factor for me, so I won’t rush into rash mods until my JL has a first winter under his/her belt (I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet...).
- I was living in Chicago with my first Jeep. And I used Nitto M/T (Mud Terrain) tires. Many people get M/T tires because they look Awesome and Aggressive! The problem is they perform horrible in snow and winter weather. And badly on wet pavement. They are also noisy and you get a really harsh ride. And they wear quickly!
- So, the tire type and brand matters. All the companies make M/T tires.
- I now use a Hybrid tire. Still has an aggressive look and is off-road capable but it’s much better in snow and wet conditions. And it’s quiet and wears better. Just not as aggressive looking as the M/T.
- Many people like the Mickey Thompson Baja. But I chose the Nitto Ridge Grappler Hybrid because I liked the look better. And they ride great, I am happy with them.
