Maybe if you look from another angle you'll find that it's different

I think the problem is the black trim around the screen. Since nothing else on the dash is trimmed like that, it does look stuck on. If they had trimmed out the vents in the same manner, it would help i think....it is just to abrupt of a change right now.

could it be to help keep the unit waterproof or resistant?

I like the display design. Love how big and boxy the 8.4 is. I have it in my 200S and it’s very comfortable to use. I find it hard to look bad in any vehicle.

This new Uconnect system in the 2019 Ram 1500 makes the JL’s 8.4 Uconnect seem outdated already. Pretty upsetting that JL couldn’t get this system. Even more upsetting that it probably will receive it within 2-3 years via facelift which will make the 2018s look outdated (like the older JKs do now).

Although that does look cool. I'm OK with the 8.4 in the Wrangler. For the size of the dash the JL has I think that would be to much screen.

What does it do that the 8.4 doesn't do?

It’s glass, meaning higher resolution. It is more like a tablet, and more similar to unit in Teslas. Larger screen, which means greater ease of use.

This is also going to be the Grand Wagoneer screen. Pretty sweet but way to big for a Wrangler. They have been playing with this for a couple years at this point.

You would have to get rid of too many buttons and knobs to make it fit. The car companies have learned we don’t like that.

I don’t think removing the volume knob is necessary to make that fit considering how many buttons there are on the dash that could simply be touch screen functions. I have a grand cherokee and use the 8.4 for everything other than turning the volume up.

It is no wider than the 8.4 unit. It just replaces the plethora of buttons that are usually stacked below the 8.4s, which is a great thing

Right, they have moved all of that before to screens. The public hates it. People do not want search through screens for things. It sounds like a good simple thing to do. In practice, it is a failure.

It is 13 "in size
Almost everything that works through that screen, came to our region on the version of LC200 2017

There are still buttons around the screen for essential uses. Want it or not, it is the future of automobiles.
