First time Jeep owner, and first time poster! I ordered my Punk’n JL Sport S with all of the trimmings in March (replacing a well-loved and well-used Subaru) and she finally arrived about two weeks ago. I originally considered a Rubicon, but that would have been a bit of overkill for me being a first time owner. And, of course, I wanted as “authentic” a Jeep experience as possible so choosing the 2 door was a no-brainer.

I’ve already started to Mopar her up with little things... running boards, fuel filler door, etc. Next month I’ve been promised that my Mopar LED headlight kit (82215136) will ship. I’ll also have the fog lights and turn indicators converted to LED. Other than that, I’m taking baby steps as I explore this new world of Jeep ownership.

Happy to be here, and nice to know you!

Real life Rubicon.jpg

Guys at Harr Jeep in Worceter MA were great cant say enough about them. Sat radio doesnt work but thats only issue I can see. Lots of buttons to figure out but clutch feels great, drives like a jeep but not like an old jeep pretty happy with my first 50 miles.

I've posted all of this in the 2 Door thread (#7792), but I'll repost here...

Initial thoughts after my first 100 miles (40 of them in stop and go traffic jams):
  • Clutch is nice. It’s very soft, which is good in traffic.
  • ESS is weird - feels like I’m driving a golf cart with it on in a traffic jam. I turn it off as soon as I remember, and will get a Tazer for a more permanent fix.
  • Hill start assist is some kind of black magic. My wife says it’s cheating, but I like it!
  • Soft top is easy to put down. A+ on the design. Glad I saved some $$ not getting dual top. It's plenty quiet for me, and I park in my garage. It's no louder than our 2004 Honda Odyssey, anyway. I mean, when a loud car/truck/motorcycle comes up next to you it's very audible, but once they pass the wind and road noise is really nothing. Windows are taut and don't flap at all, even at 75 MPH. I believe all the folks in the "hard top wind noise" thread who say there is a defect and that it's not simply a "jeep thing," but I'm happy to report that my soft top does not whistle, and is definitely quiet enough to take a conference call for work. Sweet!
  • I use the Velcro straps that came in the glove box to quiet the rear seatbelts when top is down at highway speed. Works perfectly. No more flapping.
  • Alpine and UConnect are great.
  • No more wandering than I’d expect from a Wrangler with 33" tires. It holds a line pretty well, at least until a crosswind blows.
  • Much bigger/meaner than can be captured in a photo.
  • Super comfy seats. Lumbar implementation is perfect (lack of lumbar in JK is what led me to waiting a year for the JL).
  • I can see the whole instrument panel, and my head is no where near the sport bar. (I’m 6’ 190lbs)
  • Telescoping wheel? I dunno. I have long arms so I have the wheel pushed all the way in. Is that the point, or is the point that it can pull toward me if needed? If the former, yay! If the latter, no use to me.
  • Very happy with my black fenders. They add contrast and I don’t have to worry about chipping them up.
  • Haters can keep on hating, but my polished lip wheels are sweet. No regrets there.
  • Sunblock. Keep some in your glove box. My wife gave me some fancy stuff that goes on dry. Totally needed it, yesterday. Even with it on, I still got some color with the top down during my 1 hour commute.
  • I don’t care that my rubber mats don’t have red JEEP lettering. There’s enough red, already. I really, really don’t care that they didn’t give me the carpet mats that they replaced. What the heck would I do with them?
  • My dealer very kindly did not drill my steel bumper for the front license plate (required by CT law). When I arrived for pickup, he offered to do it and I said, "no thanks!" Anyway, in another thread this bracket seems to have won the popular vote for no-drill brackets (P/N SNS141 - Amazon had the best price I could find at $85 shipped). It has a pin that allows quick removal in case you have (or will add) a winch.

Picked it up Saturday. Coming from a 14 Sahara, the ride home about an hour mostly highway was such a significant difference. I was expecting a better ride but this was unreal. My 14 had a 2.5 lift and 35s to be fair. Interior comforts also might and day. Very happy with the purchase.
