I bought my jeep exactly 7 weeks ago and was 12 miles short of 7k.
Two days ago I was prompted the following message on my instrument panel:

47317-a8cdef1aed4de7fd17c8128725f3753d.jpg

I recieved this message after exiting the freeway and proceeded to the nearest parking lot to shut off my jeep and turn it back on seconds after. The message came up again and I proceeded on my route, as my destination was only .5 miles away. I had my vehicle info battery level display on and the voltage read 10.7 V and once I stopped at an intersection the jeep started shaking and the voltage quickly dropped down to 0 V. It would not allow me to put the vehicle into neutral to push it. Everytime I tried to start it up again, all sorts of lights were flickering (i.e. the sway disconnect, lockers) and the jeep was shaking. Luckily i was able to put the jeep in 4wd neutral and push it into the nearest lot.

It has been 48hrs since i dropped the vehicle at the dealer and they have been unable to give me a clear update on what is wrong. All they said was they ordered a new battery and the terminal was shorted. I do not have the AUX package and have read on some forums that the AUX battery terminal can be a root cause of this, I've also read that this can happen due to an auto stop start malfunction which is what I experienced.

Please let me know if you have any insight on this issue. This is my first jeep and I am fairly new to this community and am extremely dissappointed by the lack of communication I've had with the service guys at Jeep.

From what I have seen and read I can only guess. There have been issues with dealerships not performing the PDI correctly. People have found loose terminals and or fuses that should have been checked by the dealer before delivery. If this was the issue I can see the short happening and causing the issues you experienced. That would be my best guess.

Just got an update: Electronic power steering had been shorted and a new gearbox has been ordered. I am unfamiliar with all of this, as it is my first jeep. If anyone can provide insight on what questions I should be asking the service guys to ensure this does not happen again, I would appreciate it.

How can i prove that the dealer did not perform the PDI correctly. It seems like a shorted powersteering and a new gearbox is a very serious repair.

I am not sure how you can prove that they did not perform the PDI correctly. This is just a guess. For all we know the short could have been caused by something else and now the service department is fixing it so that it does not happen again.

A new pump maybe, the gearbox can't short out and cause a problem like that. Very odd that a "shorted gearbox" took out the battery and the alternators ability to charge the system.

A PDI doesnt have the dealership check all the fuses or all the wiring connectors. A PDI is there to check that all systems are working at time of delivery. A basic road test of a min of 8 miles is all that is required.

@OFFREDDY @JeepCares , what ever came of this? I ask because it just happened to me yesterday and my vehicle is now at the dealership to be inspected. It shutoff on me at a red light same as you stated, Only difference is that i continued to try and start it and I was finally able to get it going. Of course by the time I made it to the dealership, it was running fine and the vehicle was not shutting off. They said they would diagnose it anyway.

Thanks in Advance.

I had this happen to me just yesterday quite far from my home. I immediately checked what was online and found this forum. I’m really upset about I just bought this Jeep. I only have 1700 miles and this happens. Just scheduled a service appointment so now I have to miss work. I asked the lady in the service department if she knew what this was. She said she had no idea.

One of the disadvantages of allowing the damn kiddie engineers to add any little electric gee-whiz gizmo that they can come up with. The more wiring that is in a vehicle, the more unreliable it will be since each of those wires means one more thing that can go wrong and with cars these days, something as simple as an ABS sensor going out could result in a car being stuck somewhere. Or a car could just have a faulty ground and it causes so many lights for error conditions to show up on the dash that the car's computer thinks that the car should not be running. And let's not forget the stupid DEF requirement for diesels these days. They don't even bother to put a fill level on the cars. You just get a warning at some point when there is a certain number of miles left in the DEF tank. On my wife's 335d, it's a 1000 mile warning. Sounds not so bad, right? Well, unless it happens right as you get on the highway for a 1000 mile trip like happened to me last week. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the idiots at BMW had made the DEF fill nozzles easier to get to and the didn't overflow at any faster fill rate than a slow drizzle.

I had the exact same issue happen this morning to my 2018 Sahara. I bought it new 3 months ago and it has less than 7k miles. Driving to work this morning and the “STOP SAFELY VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF SOON” warning appeared. Thanks to this post, I read it and turned around to go back home. On my way, the power steering went out along with everything else. Luckily I was able to pull to the side of the road before the vehicle completely shut down. I had it towed to the dealership and now I’m waiting for the diagnosis.
