Well threw the drone up at camp tonight. Epic camp spot cliff side on the coast of Northern California.

We made our way farther up the coast today and explored along the way. I am a lucky man as this is the second time I have done this part of the Pacific Coast HYW 1.

The first time I did this was in July 2012 when my youngest son and I did an 8,000 mile motorcycle trip around the western United States. He rode his Ninja 650 and I was on my Concours-14.

So now that we are retired, we have a little more time to explore. The first stop was a little town called Inverness. The was a ship wreck right behind the grocery store.

Then drove the 20 miles out to the lighthouse. Of course it is a National Monument but it was closed..

Next Stop was a beach where the Salmon River emptied into the Pacific Ocean. There were a bunch of structures built out of driftwood on the beach.

I could have stopped 50 times today and taken similar pics like this. The drive is beautiful.

We ended up at Glass beach. A spot that I saw on Instagram one time. The Instagram pics made the place look like it was full of glass stones and multi-colored stones on the beach and in the water. I was a little disappointed at first because it was just not that impressive. The more I walked the better it got. Still glad it was only a quarter mile out of my way and not hundreds of miles.

After leaving Glass beach, we headed to where we planned to camp for the night. I snapped these shots there and flew my drone.

iI has been a few months since I had the drone out.

We drove about 170 miles up the coast today so we are a little ahead of schedule.

I am getting ready to replace my hiking shoes as they are showing considerable wear. The sole has warn tread off at points and the cousin is breaking down. The shoe manufacturer states the shoes should be god for 350 to 500 miles. So I am thinking somewhere in that range. I also split the duty up between Danner boots. So maybe over 500 miles.

All that water is a stark contrast to the desert pics I was getting used to! Love it. Glass beach and the area look pretty awesome.

Yesterday we drove the Lost Coast Highway in Northern California. It was pretty, but overhyped on the web. Three hours of driving for a few miles along the coast and in my opinion, I could have had the same or better views with out spending the time or money for fuel to see it. The drive was many miles of winding roads through and over the mountains to get there for about two miles along the coast. Then back out to the 101 to continue north.

I did throw the drone up for a 30 second video.



And snapped a couple pics along the way. Or not. The Wi-Fi at this hotel sucks. Do the cellular providers even know that the Oregon Coast exist? This is the worst coverage I have experienced in the entire US.

Okay let’s try this again.

We passed through a couple different Redwood groves.

The lost coast was okay

This rock caught my eye. It looks like a battleship off the coast on Patrol.

It was a long day in the Jeep.

Rolled through Coos Bay and Carla requested a stop at the fabric/quilt store. Luckily They had a street market on a Wednesday going on in front of the fabric store.

Then back to heading North up the coast. Driving, I see a sign advertising the world’s largest sea cave.

a quick elevator ride brings us to the a part of the sea cave. We get to look into the cave and not disturb the sea loins.

the othe overlook came out to a waterfall overlooking the coastline.

They must have known I was coming and know my elevator etiquette.

The price of admission was $16 and well worth it. I don’t normally do these tourist traps, but this was a good break from driving.

There are so many pull off and things to see along the coast. A quick pull off for these views

Off to find a boondock camp spot A quick review of IOverlander and we find this spot south of Tillmook. That means we are in position to grab badge trails in Oregon.

Great night at a nice spot. There was a fast moving stream that provided a great sound to. All the trees were covered in a moss. Made for a magical forest.

So catching up. We wheeled the two badge trails today in the Tillmook forest. Cedar Tree first. Nice trailno real obstacles; can be done with a stock set up. Some pretty views.

First stop was breakfast and Carla is trying to fatten me up. Homemade carrot cake, homemade cookies and homemade peanut butter chocolate pie. Going to have to go for a run tomorrow.

The sky turned gray.

Off we go on Cedar Tree trail.

The trail is named after this spot. A huge cedar tree fell over and if your jeep is small enough, you can drive through the tree.

Looks like Icwill be taking the bypass. Lol.

A young tree growing from an old stump. Proof that life finds a way even in death.

The sky opened up with rain and fog in the mountains.

Kind of reminds me of wheeling in Tennessee and West Virginia. Like the Smokey Mountains, just bigger.

The rain came in as we started running Firebreak 5 trail. More obstacles than Cedar Tree trail. I did not snap as many pics because of the rain… Pouring rain. Most of these came from a muddy rocky down hill obstacle. Why because the rain had slowed down some.

Of course Carla is driving and I am spotting. The mud was slick and she kind of slid her way down the hill and over the rocks.

She did flex the Jeep out and posed it for some pics.

Now to get hooked back up.

A quick lunch on the trail and a little wine… very little to toast another great day of wheeling

It was raining sideways with high winds. Hotel time, no camping tonight and no cooking outside.

Mo is the place to be for seafood chowder on the beach in Cannon Beach.

Hoping the weather will be better in the morning.
