After leaving Joshua Tree, we headed to Big Bear to wheel. Set up camp in the Sandardino National Forest. We then wheeled John Bull and Gold Mountain today. A long day behind the wheel. John Bull was a great trail. I liked it better than Gold Mountain. I did not find Gold Mountain technical, there was a couple waterfall type climbs, more just rough trail full of rocks.

John Bull first. Great obstacles used the rear lockers one time and only had to stack rocks once. Very fun trail.

And so it begins. Carla took the pics today and did the driving. There was only a few spots that I got out to look at before I continued.

There was Some flexing going on.

These are from Gold Mountain. One of the climbs required both lockers to get up. Not as many pics from Gokd Mountain. My photographer was burned out.

Back to John Bull. I have no idea why the forum loads these pics out of order, but it is a pain to try and switch them around using my ip

This adventure is exhausting at times and we have to remind ourselves that we don’t need to do everything on this trip. For example, Big Bear is a cool spot and we wish we could stay longer. The area is beautiful, with many cool hikes and all kinds of wheeling. Even the town looks like it would be fun to explore, but if we stay longer, there will be other things that we will miss and we need to start heading north.

So we left Big Bear a couple days ago and headed to Sequoia national park. I was there back in March, and returned so Carla could see it again as it was several years ago since she had been there. I when while she was at home visiting family for a week.

We are heading north now.

Ever wonder what a road looks like that picks up 6000 ft of elevation?

The place is magical. Should on every ones bucket list.

Now that’s a burrow.

Did see a black bear ripping up a down rotten tree to get to the yummies on the inside. The bear was about 40 yards away. I thought about letting Carla pet it, but had to refrain myself. True adventure girls are hard to replace.

Carla as scale. She is 5’11.

We only spent an hour or so here hiking and looking at the massive trees as we have both been here prior. Still well worth the visit.

We left the sequoia national Park and headed towards Kings Canyon National Park. The two park are easy to travel to as a beautiful road through the mountains connects. This was our first time here and man did I wish we had more time. The road that goes through Kings Canyon dead end so you have to return the way you came in. It is about 36 miles long when you turn to head into Kings Canyon. The road is an incredible drive with towering granite walls, a raging river that flows over rocks epic views and waterfalls. Think Lied of the Rings type mountain sights.

Kinda crazy people stacked all of these rocks. I normally see these type of stacked rocks along hiking trails, not all together like this.

The father into the park you go, the more epic the views become.

The road follows the river for about twenty miles. There are many many pull offs.

We stopped at two of the Falls. This is Roaring Falls. A short hike from the road . Very easy to get to.

The second set of falls was called Grizzly Falls and was just off the road.

Just high enough to hurt.

We camped at a small private campsite and they had the oldest operating gravity gas pumps in the US. Minimum 4 gallon purchase at 7.49 a gallo

Kings Canyon is now in my top five favorite National Parks that I have visited. A must do if your in the area. It was not crowded and overrun by visitors like some of the other parks. I will return here and spend a week or so exploring it more.

Kind of a long day in the Jeep drowning miles. We left Kings Canyon approximately at 730 am and headed to Yosemite National Park.

Four hours later and approximately 160 miles, I find out that you can only get into Yosemite with a reservation. WTF, it was not like that on Recreation.gov. Man I fucking hate that app. I swear that site was developed by a seven year old using a Commodore 64 computer. So we backtracked out of the park and headed for the Pacific coast just north of San Francisco. Headed up the PC1 about 20 miles or so. Set up camp on a dirt pull off overlooking the Pacific coast. It was foggy and at first we could not even see the ocean. Luck was on our side though. It cleared up after dinner.

I snapped this about half way down to the water. The hike down was .4 miles. So less than a mile total.

Of course I climbed out on the huge rock.

Using me for scale, I am 6’4. These rocks are not grippy like Moab or Joshua Tree rocks. I was kinda kicking myself for making the climb and had to be very careful making my way back down.

We where both crabby when we finally got out of the Jeep after 11 hours or so of driving, missing Yosemite and the traffic in the Bay area. I think after filling up again just before the coast, I had put about $240 in fuel in the tank today.

Getting down by the water and the sounds of the ocean lifted our spirits.

Then we found a boulder that had heart shaped stones on it. Nice find it was in my Yoda voice.

We are looking forward to a week or so exploring the small coastal towns, maybe some hiking on the beaches and maybe run the Lost HYW ad we travel to Washington..
