I'm looking for a roof hoist...many options but what's your experience? I did a search as I'm sure it's been addressed but opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

And I know...roof not rood!
I have the Harken Jeep Top Hoist and it works great. I replaced all but 2 of the bolts with hand twist tops and can remove my hard top in less than 10 minutes.

Just clip in 2 straps, remove the bolts, undo the washer and wire harness, and pull the hoist line. It can be done with one person.

Plus depending on your ceiling height you have ample room to walk under the hardtop when not in use.

I bought both the garage smart hardtop lift and top lift pro (found one used). Likely going to keep one and sell one. Love the simplicity and speed of the top lift pro but also love the utilization of ceiling space with the top way out of the way with the ceiling hoist.

Quarantine project done! Check it out.
Thanks for posting this video. I'd say it was worth it just to see how excited your son is! Priceless! :like:

Definitely worth it for the reaction. I involve my boys in every project. Great learning experience, from concept, through design drawings, through the real build, budgeting, and final price. They get real world, hands on education, a great memory with their dad, and such great results to play with afterwards.

I’m going to try to knock mine out this weekend starting with a $15 pulley from Harbor Freight. Looking to be at about $100 all said and done including a platform for the top to sit on from the ceiling.

Installed my garage smart hoist this weekend and happy with it. Relatively easy install and easy to operate. Will likely list my top lift pro for sale. Love the speed of the top lift pro but in our garage need the top up much higher to stay out of the way. Also got the soft top on which I’m thrilled about :)

I mounted a Lange hoist but have not used it yet. The crank is going to be a pain, so I was thinking of getting a $90 Harbor Freight winch and mounting it on the wall. Anyone do this or know if it is possible to mount it on a wall? Thanks

Yes you can mount it on the wall. You have to slightly modify a 2x6 though for the brackets.
