So, I usually carry enough to be self sufficient when on the trail, but I don't yet have any spill kit for cleaning oil, etc.

Anyone here have any suggestions on decent market kits and/or what you carry as a diy kit?

Kitty litter works well for absorbing oil and other fluids. It's fairly easy to clean up too.

My wife put together a small spill kit for the jeep. It contains a couple absorbent pads (one for all liquids and one that absorbs only oil - source: New Pig), some shop towels, rubber gloves and a couple heavy duty trash bags. It should handle small spills, but the idea is that if everyone in the group has one, then you can take care of larger spills.

I also carry a shovel so I can also collect and bag contaminated soil (in theory).
