But I am guessing to run 35’s you need more than the Rubi fenders, right? I would need a lift as well?

i am eventually gonna do the lift (maybe 3-4 months from now) but I hate how the jeep tires look stock so wanna do something about it now. Lol
The main thing you need to do is remove the plastic pieces that bridge the gap between your front bumper and fender flares. 33s & 35s will rub those when you turn. There are 6 or so screws per piece ... pretty easy to see and remove. Although I seem to recall that there was an extra one on the passenger side was a little bit tricky to spot.

I agree & disagree with @scrape . Taller tires pushed out wider than your fender flares are likely to rub the outer edge of your fender flares at full articulation. But, taller tires tucked under are likely to rub at full turn. Both should be avoided.

@TroyBoy posted the stock Rubicon wheel specs.
The outer width of the wheel is 8 3/4" (7.5" inner).
The backspace is 6 1/8" (measured with a laser tool too)
6 1/8" - (8 3/4" / 2) = 1 3/4" or 44.45mm offset
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...and-backspace-of-stock-jl-rubicon-wheel.3992/

When I bought my wheels, I used the Mopar beadlock specs as a rule of thumb. It has about 1.7" less back spacing to reduce the chance of internal rub. As long as the tire you buy isn't super wide, it probably won't rub the outer edge of the fender flare during articulation either.
The Mopar beadlock wheel has ... Backspacing of 4.4" and (+12mm offset).
https://moparonlineparts.com/jeep-wrangler-wheel-beadlock-capable-p-8191.html

Since the Mopar wheel has about 1.7" less backspacing than stock, I would think you could get away with keeping stock wheels with a 1.5" spacer. That would position the stock wheels like the Mopar wheels are positioned.

While +44mm to -18mm seems like a huge difference, it is only about 2.4 inches farther out which isn't too crazy. Every 24mm is about 1". Some people like the tire to be a little wider than the fender flares.
The cons are ...
Even if your tires are just a little wider than your fender flares, they will throw a lot more road crap up on the side of your Jeep ... mud flaps can help.
Tires wider than fender flares are illegal in some states. Things to consider.

This chart shows backspacing along the top, wheel width along the left, and offsets in the middle. Happy shopping!

These were my "too small" winter blizzaks, but the offset was the same as the stock.

This is +44 (with a stock width tire) to -18 (with 285/70R17 KO2's) and back down to +18. While it doesn't look like much, I was washing my windows literally 3-4x/day from the road spray with the -18's (I couldn't see crap when changing lanes or backing up). I spit so many rocks at myself that those -18's lasted about a week before I called the tire shop and cried uncle. It depends on where you live, but if you live in an area like mine where the snow is melting and road debris is a problem then this might not be the look for you.

Any road spray with the +18? What's the width of the wheel? 7.5? 8.5?

I'm looking at the receipt for the wheels, and I don't know. They're Mayhem Warrior black with milled spokes (see link). The original order says 17x9, but the new receipt only shows the refund, and not the wheels they replaced it with. The originals were DEFINITELY +18mm, and now I'm unsure if the new ones were +12 or +18! I'm going to phone them tomorrow to confirm.

https://www.mayhemwheels.com/8015-milled-spokes

The problem for me is that we went from +44.5 offset (with a stock 255 tire) to a -18mm offset (with different rims) AND a 285 tire. If it was a 17x9, that would make a LOT of sense why they stuck out as much as they did. The rims SHOULD have been 17x7.5. I don't recall the width of the stock rims (maybe someone else knows).

The road spray was absolutely ridiculous, but winter is also melting here so our roads are quite wet and dirty (and full of gravel from the winter). I had to wash my windows EVERY time I left the house (like 3-4x/day, no exaggeration). They would cake with dirty road water I couldn't see changing lanes, backing up, etc... had to roll the windows down EVERY time I backed up. It would spray up the sides and sometimes onto my front windshield too... you could see it coming up from the front fender and right over the hood. LOL I spit a few rocks at myself a few times too. I do not recommend -18mm offset with 285/70R17 KO2's. You would need fender flare extenders for sure.

The +18's (or is it +12?) on the other hand seem to be fine. There's very little spray now, but we also added mud flaps (we didn't have them with the -18 wheels).

Edit: My husband says we went in by 30mm... So we definitely went from -18 to +12. NOT +18. I'll get back to you on the width of the wheels. They SHOULD be 7.5.

Offrampclimb.........can you post a few pictures of the sides. Like this wheel and tire size, Want to see how far the tires stick out. I do want the tire to stick out some.

Thanks!

It does widen the stance just a bit. Not by much, though, and looks good this way. :D

Offramp...........great! I will be heading to the dealer in the AM. They have a good tire sale on right now!

Update: Went by local dealer and ordered 5 Mopar 77072472AB and 5 Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/70/17 TNI0217710. Entire package with mounting, balancing and wheel alignment. $2,312 May have been able to save a buck or 2 on line but the dealer handling everything is worth it to me.

Here is my Jl sport on stock suspension with 285/17r17 Toyo open country at tires. The wheel is a 17in helo he878. No rubbing and no tire mount necessary for the rear. Great tire with no road noise. Only complaint is that I lost about 2-5mpg, which was expected. Hope this helps!

Got the new wheels and tires on today. Just the look I wanted. A few observations.....you can tell that the wheels/tires are heavier. Just noticeable the small decrease in acceleration and a tad slower in breaking. I would think after a few times driving you would not remember and will be use to the new normal. I really babied it going home but will probably see a slight reduction in MPG. Worth every dime in gas for the new look!

I noticed the reduced MPG on mine as well. The performance & ride difference is something you'll get used to. I did have to get mine rebalanced a few weeks after install, though. The intallation shop just didn't balance them very well.

Show us pics!

I wonder how many people are actually losing MPG or just never bothered to get the speedometer recalibrated and simply think they are losing MPG. I have 0 difference in MPG between my stock sport tires and 285/70/17 K02's.

Maybe the KO2 are lighter than my tires? Not sure. But the difference in circumference from the OEM 255/70/r18 to 285/70/r17 is only about 2%, which would translate to any distance measurements too, meaning if my MPG displays 20 on the new tires, actual MPG would be at most 20.4. I'm experiencing a drop of about 1 - 2 full MPG. No big deal, but I don't think the calibration has that much affect on it. I don't have a tazer or anything to test with, though, so there may be something else that calibration would correct.

Or my math skills are really bad and actual MPG would around 19.6? .... :movember:

I had the dealer "program tire size". The speedometer is dead on compared to our Pilot and GPS. We road around all day today and did a little highway driving. The jeep would drop down to 7th gear every now and then to maintain 60 mph. It did not do this before. Now we did have the windows down which probably didn't help. I did notice a little louder hum with the windows down Nothing major but I am really listening. After a few more trips I will not be listening and will not notice.

New kicks on the crag wagon!

275/70/R18 BFG KO2 ATs. This is a Euro spec Wrangler Sahara. No lift, no spacers.

I have no rub at full turn, and haven't tested rubbing the wheel wells at full flex. I don't think there will be any.

Are those stock wheels? what is the wheel width? My stock JLU wheels are 7.5" and I want these exact tires, but am concerned that the tire is to wide for the wheel.

Yes these are stock Sahara wheels. I have no idea what the width is. but the tires fit fine. I've seen others with the same wheels and tires on this forum, which inspired me to go for it.

So pretty. Thanks for the pics. I think you saved me a bunch of money. I can avoid the spacer or lift or rim question and just go this route. One request, can you take a pic from the back looking straight down the line of one side or the other? Just want to see how far outside the wheel well you're getting. Thanks again.
